Man! How did I miss out on this whole thread?!
I've carried my Kimber Ultra Carry C&L since day 1. I carried around the house at first, but I never did leave without a round in the chamber, and that thumb safety up. I've got a lot of folks that I look up to (a lot of you guys/gals on here) who helped me to understand the basic workings of a 1911, and it just makes sense to me. It was designed that way!
You ever been to the range with a 1911, cocked and locked it, and then tried to make it fire without disengaging the thumb safety? It doesn't work. I put 1 round in the chamber, disengaged the thumb safety, and held the gun with my left hand without hitting the grip safety, and tried to pull the trigger. Didn't fire.
This may sound extreme, but it is my opinion (which isn't worth much) that the 1911 carried C&L is the safest carry weapon available.
