Good sanitation practices here too....flush toilets (for the most part), clean water, all the amenities. Should help limit disease.

Liberia has 1 physician per 20,000 population. Before outbreak.
Liberia has 1 physician per 80,000 population. After outbreak, due to leaving the country and death by Ebola.

Research indicates this is the greatest cause of increased life expectancy in the US over the last 100 or so years. From the upper 40s to upper 70s.

Precisely why any emergency plan (medium to long term loss of public services) must have sanitation as a major part of the plan. A bit OT, but important. Especially for those of us of a mid to northern latitude with winter just around the corner.

Patient 0 for the United States arrived in Dallas, Texas on September 20th. He did not check into the hospital until September 26th. He was not put in isolation until September 28th.

The ambulance crew that transported him from one hospital to the other on the 28th has been put in isolation.

From September 19th when he boarded the plane in Africa till the 28th, he may have been infecting everyone he came in contact with. I have not heard if anyone else who has been put in isolation. I just hope he did not have children.

We will know in two weeks if he infected anyone else.

They state that you are only contagious once you start exhibiting symptoms. If he had no symptoms on the 20th he should not have been infecting anyone. I would be concerned from around the 24th - 26th and any direct contacts he had.

The problem with everything the CDC says ( and it all may be true ) is that they can't really say anything that might panic the public. So, hopefully this is a contained case but knowing that they might not tell everything to prevent a panic I can not say with certainty that we can believe anything they say. We will just have to wait and see if any new cases show up. I personally would not be surprised if new cases did show up. The CDC is a government run agency with all of the the imperfections of any government run agency. They couldn't track smallpox or anthrax in their own facility. The infected individual went to a hospital 2 days before and was sent home??? Remind me not to go to that ER.
