A coworker was the one who brought it up to me. I commented that sounds like what happens when you attack the police with a knife. She was upset that they shot to kill him. I tried to explain that shooting to maim doesn't exist. If you're using your gun you're shooting center of mass until the threat is stopped. She said that was wrong. I tried to explain how difficult it would be to shoot something like a moving leg. She claimed to have shot a gun before and that cops should be better shots than us.... Now that I know how she really feels I'll be keeping my mouth shut about this whole incident and topic. I also mentioned that the officer in the Brown shooting had a fractured eye socket but she doesn't care much about that either, probably doesn't support the narrative she wants to believe.
I gotta learn to keep my mouth shut about these things. Don't want a visit from HR or anything...
Maybe explain to her that the Ferguson officer shot Brown 4 times in the arm. When that didn't stop the 300-pound man, he shot him twice in the head.

Doubtful the officer was aiming for the arm though.

I have a handful of black and white friends where this whole incident has brought to the surface deep distrust of law enforcement (understandably so considering what they've shared with me). This incident has become their rallying cry or banner incident. But I think they've jumped the gun by not waiting for all the facts. Now that evidence of Brown's violent behavior has come to light they are embarrassed but becoming even more deeply entrenched. Even to the point where they are practically calling the theft accusations outright fabrications.
It's sad because they have legit concerns about discrimination and militarization but they've picked the wrong incident to push it with.

This cop is probably going to get railroaded no matter what the truth is.

One certainly hopes that will not be the case.

I sincerely hope not. Wrongdoing has been done in Feurgueson, but at this time it does not look like it was by him. I am still wary of LEOs that I don't know. Not angry or hateful, just wary.

That said, you punch a LEO in the face and try to take his weapon what do you think is going to happen? This was not some poor innocent child executed by a big bad police man.

It is looking more and more like a always sad, but likely justified shoot. The process needs to happen though. Grand Jury. No special prosecutor appt by a politically motivated opposition.

I still feel that if that was my store, I would place a few inward facing claymores around the perimeter of the store before locking up, they being connected to motion detectors.

From what I have seen on video, the loss of store product would be about the same.

And the first time someone got hurt or killed, you would be going straight to jail. Thus, I'm certain, you are writing ironically....or is it sarcastically?

And that would be totally illegal
Sec. 9.44. USE OF DEVICE TO PROTECT PROPERTY.
The justification afforded by Sections 9.41 and 9.43 applies to the use of a device to protect land or tangible, movable property if:
(1) the device is not designed to cause, or known by the actor to create a substantial risk of causing, death or serious bodily injury; and
(2) use of the device is reasonable under all the circumstances as the actor reasonably believes them to be when he installs the device.
When I was a LEO in Missouri we arrested a guy who had set up a trigger wire on a shotgun pointed at the door of his abandoned property because he had kids breaking in periodically. He told someone about it and they reported him. We went to the house, looked in the windows and could see it set up on the door. Lucky for him it was found before some kid got killed and he spent the rest of his life in prison for murder.

I told my husband yesterday if I lived in town or had a business there I'd make sure the insurance was paid up then board up and shut down. Not worth the life of me or my employees. Then if our store survived the onslaught I would pack up. If they want to riot don't be surprised if businesses say "so long, see you later".

Kinda like half ironically and half sarcastically.

Like the news people reporting something as a 'freak' accident, but never seem to tell us which circus was in town, or how many managed to escape.

Ya know in all this stuff going on why hasn't Browns accomplice been arrested for the robbery and the death in connection with that robbery AND lying to police assuming he made a statement.

The head shots may have occurred as the suspect leaned, lunged, or fell forward into the center of mass aiming point more quickly than the officer could adjust his aim.
