Anyone can get a DL starting at age 16 and getting one is something like an American right of passage. Cars are ubiquitous. Some liberals and moms go weak in the knees and hyperventilate at the mere sight of a gun.....something they don't usually do at the mere sight of a car unless it's a Prius (liberal) or a Lamborghini (mom demanding action). Only a very small minority of people have CHLs so someone using one as ID is likely to be considered unusual or unique by the general public. While you and those on here may not feel special using it for ID I think you're underestimating human vanity if you don't think there are, perhaps not a majority, but plenty of people out there wanting to say "look at me, I'm special" with their CHL.TVGuy wrote:When I'm asked to show ID and I give a DL, it's not like I'm thinking "Oh, look at me, I'm special...I can drive a car!!!"o b juan wrote:What is it with people wanting to use their CHL as ID. I agree
If I am asked for 2 photo I Ds They get My DL and my VA card.
Some OC folks for the same reason will prance around , til the new wears off
Why would it be any different with CHL? There is a utility in the fact you can use CHL if needed for primary or secondary ID.

The fact is nearly everyone can carry a gun (in their car) as well at age 21. To me it's more like saying "I'm normal" than "I'm special".

Where did you find that minimum age? All I can find is PC §46.13. MAKING A FIREARM ACCESSIBLE TO A CHILD, which defines a child as anyone under 17 years of age.TVGuy wrote:The fact is nearly everyone can carry a gun (in their car) as well at age 21. (noted exceptions of course)

Under federal law, one must be 21 to purchase a handgun, but I know of no such law for ownership.

I thought about that, but I wasn't sure. Maybe it is 18. It doesn't affect me or my family, so I don't know which it was.Pawpaw wrote:Where did you find that minimum age? All I can find is PC §46.13. My point still stands though.

Thanks. I was not trying to bust your chops or anything. It was a genuine question.
That subject pops up here from time to time.
You're right, it does not affect your point.

Re: Using CHL As ID
Could, but most don't. In any case, the discussion is about CHLs as ID....most people don't have CHLs. The vast majority of people that have a DL do not have a CHL, so in that context it is definitely not normal to have a CHL.TVGuy wrote:The fact is nearly everyone can carry a gun (in their car) as well at age 21. I find it extremely normal to have a CHL, but its certainly not common.VMI77 wrote:Could, but most don't. In any case, the discussion is about CHLs as ID....most people don't have CHLs. Semantics. You're suggesting a psychological judgment in a context where there isn't one.Taypo wrote:I find it extremely normal to have a CHL, but its certainly not common.

Synonym Discussion of NORMAL
regular, normal, typical, natural mean being of the sort or kind that is expected as usual, ordinary, or average. regular stresses conformity to a rule, standard, or pattern <the club's regular monthly meeting>. normal implies lack of deviation from what has been discovered or established as the most usual or expected <normal behavior for a two-year-old>. typical implies showing all important traits of a type, class, or group and may suggest lack of strong individuality <a typical small town>. natural applies to what conforms to a thing's essential nature, function, or mode of being <the natural love of a mother for her child>.
Having a CHL is neither typical, commonplace, usual, the most usual or expected, or something possessed by the average person. In the context I used it there is no judgment of mental state or condition.
