Welcome to the forum JayMan!

I'm about 5 days ahead of you. My package was received by DPS on 5/12. I am curious to follow your time! Keep us posted
I have been in background review limbo for about 3 weeks now. the pain... it hurts...

Thanks for the welcome Clutch. I will keep you posted on my progress. It must be painful for you to have to wait. I moved here from Arizona so I still carry using that license. It only took two weeks for me to get my AZ license and that was including getting fingerprinted a second time after the first set was rejected. I know for a while the Texas approvals were happening pretty fast but it looks like they have slowed a bit. I'm guessing it will be around two months to get the TX plastic.
Stay in touch.
Jay

Good morning, yall!
I took my class this last Sunday, 27 June, and mailed my packet via certified mail yesterday. I'm a long time shooter, but until recently it hasn't been practical for me to take the CHL class.
Having had to undergo other background checks as part of my job, I'm used to this waiting period, so I don't think the wait will be too bad.
It's interesting to read the "LEO Encounter" threads, since as a geocacher that's a common topic as well. Of course, the stakes are quite a bit different between geocaching and carrying, but it all comes down to how one interacts with the officer. As one of League City CPA's Alumni members, I've had the chance to see LEO/citizen encounters from the officer's perspective.
Anyway, I'm glad I found this forum and look forward to gaining much knowledge.
Have a great day, all, and stay safe.

Welcome to the forum Lefty. Recently, the DPS has been pretty good about turning around applications, so you shouldn't have long in the "Waiting Room".

I have "status" now. Looks like the fingerprints and background check are "under review," while everything else has a green check by it. They received my packet on 30 June, so I guess this is about right.

Lefty,
A couple of us have been "under review" for about a month already. Welcome to the club!

My app was also received on June 30th and all get is this...
License Status: Application processed online. Concealed Handgun Licensing has mailed an application packet to you and is waiting on the receipt of required materials. Once the application and materials have been received by Concealed Handgun Licensing and processing has begun, a more detailed status will appear on this page.

Cableguy: it will say that for about 3 weeks then you'll get your real status... That's where the fun starts

Be encouraged. Your time will come.
With a fully prepared/completed packet - thanks to a great instructor who made sure everything was in order and ready to mail as we left the class - I received my CHL about 31 days after mailing by certified mail.

to DPS for speedy processing.

Don't hold your breath for speedy processing. DPS received my complete application on May 17 and my status is still "Under Review".

Looks like Austin is on the ball with my renewal:
1. Applied online 30 MAY 10
2. DPS received 30 JUN 10
3. Background check complete, pending manufacture 13 JUL 10
4. Mailed 15 JUL 10
Charles, the new system is a parsec ahead of what it was 5 years ago !
Best part is the online signing of the affidavits and no fingerprints and photos.
All I had to submit was the checklist and TRL-100.
I wasn't born in TX, but I got here as fast as I could.

Hey Guys,
My status, just today, has changed to:
Background Check : Completed
Concealed Handgun License : Manufacturing Pending
As a frame of reference DPS had received my completed application on 5/17/10.
Anyone know how long it takes them to "manufacture" and mail it?
Jay

In my case, it was two days. It went "Pending" on 6/30, then "Mailed" on 7/2. I received plastic on 7/6.

You should have plastic next Wednesday (August 11), a bit sooner is possible
