Section 30.06 is not an unjust law. I very much believe in the right of a private property owner having total and full control over his own property, including rather or not somebody is allowed to carry a handgun onto the property. .
Fine. Believe all you want. I am certain many others believe like you do. I do not.
If so many folks believe in personal property rights, why are so many on this board always crying about 30.06 postings and "They do not want my business"? If personal property is so sacred, then we really shouldn't even be diascussing 30.06 ever on this board because it would not matter.
If an individual trusts LEO to carry on their property, they should allow us to carry on their property. There is no difference.

Im going to have to agree, although i will agree that any property owner has a right to limit who can or cannot enter onto their property, i do not feel that if the public is invited that they should give up the right of self defense with a firearm if that is how they choose to defend themselves.
In fact, i feel that it should be expected that all public citizens who enter your property or store have the right to defend themselves according to the constitution.
How are you as a property owner with constitutional rights yourself, going to deny certain rights to another?
Its hypocrisy as far as im concerned.
Sure go ahead and post a "no shirt, no shoes, no service" sign, but i dont think thats in the constitution :)

Hospital policy. The same as when we go to city or county jail - it's their policy that dictates the weapons on premises procedures.
As which person are you talking about???
Because maybe like some have said before, as a LEO, by law you do not have to disarm but just go along with their policy.
But as a CHL, then it is the LAW not policy that you have to abide by.
PC §46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE HOLDER.
(a) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder carries a handgun on or about the license holder's person under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, and intentionally fails to conceal the handgun.
(b) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of whether the handgun is concealed, on or about the license holder's person:
(3) on the premises of a correctional facility;
(4) on the premises of a hospital licensed under Chapter 241, Health and Safety Code, or on the premises of a nursing home licensed under Chapter 242, Health and Safety Code, unless the license holder has written authorization of the hospital or nursing home administration, as appropriate;
If I'm not mistaken shouldn't this paragraph be added here?:
(i) [added 9/1/97] Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.

Yep, that's what my copy says:
"(i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor
was not given effective notice under Section 30.06."
looks like that covers hospitals, nursing homes, amusement parks and churches. I regularly attend three out of four

I've been worried about this topic myself. I live in the medical center area of Houston and am in Medical school, which means I'll spend the rest of my life going in and out of hospitals. My issue is, there are often muggings in the various parking garages around the medical center, especially of people getting off shift late at night. What do you guys recommend doing in a case like that? Any advice, if you can't carry? (short of getting a security guard to walk with me to my car every day, which as a guy, I'd feel really awkward doing)

The obvious answer is pepper spray.
Flare gun?
Alternately, is there any possibility of you checking your firearm with the security people when you arrive, and retrieve it when leaving?

How about asking for written permission? Hospitals are usually pretty accomodating to physicians. After all, they are the people who bring in the money.

The trick is to get on the good side of the administrator where you are doing your internship, residency, etc. and convince them their policy needs to allow CHL to carry. As Bill said, even in the situations where they are trying to limit carry, they may be more lenient for a physician on staff to get permission.
Once you are established, then get on the board for various hospitals and companies and work to change the views and policies. Your title will carry a lot of weight with the powers that be!

It's pretty ironic that a physician, who is trusted to prescribe potentially poisonous drugs and literally cut patients open, is not trusted with a firearm.

I have often wondered about this. I think it's senseless for hospitals to post 30.06 for many reasons.
When I took my CHL class, the instructor told us that St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur had issues where the rival gang members followed a wounded thug's ambulance to the hospital to finish him off.
There have been occasions where people walked in and assaulted/killed patients.
Of course, as a previous post mentioned, parking garages aren't the safest place in the world, and medical personnel work in shifts.
I agree that the hospital should at least provide storage for weapons for hospital personnel.
As for getting written permission, it might work for a doctor with bargaining power, but I doubt it would work for nurses and nurse's aids, or the legions of support people that work for the hospital. They should have the right to defend themselves as well.
The nurse's aid (from the orignal post) is a classic example of one of these employees needing a weapon. She was WALKING home late at night. There was no way she could have left it in her car, as she didn't have one.
(People that ride city buses would have the same problem.)

Sad, but true.
