Def going to join IDPA. I've shot at Dallas Pistol Club great time. It's hard to become a member. I'm around 300 on list. So I only get a chance to shoot once a month. If I'm working and miss the date it gets to long between competitions for me. I start losing what I gained.

Shooting at a tactical event with live scenarios is night and day different then shooting at the range. Where all marksman at the range. Try something as simple as walking then shooting and hitting. Oh my first time it's a challange.

I can shoot at DPS each other Sat, one for Real World gun and one for the Personal Protection Match. Sundays are for the steel matches which are fast paced and fun.

I like Zoomie's answer. But -

I nearly bailed out of the CHL class when the instructor went on about cost, liabilities and what the prosecutor is going to say when your on trial for shooting someone. But when I commented on that he asked "What would you do for your family?" I shut up and paid attention.

I go thru many scenarios in my mind and safety is always there. If I could stop the shooter while he's firing and had a clear shot I think I'd try. Note - while he's firing.

So at what distance do we protect or come to the aid of a nine year old? At what distance do we just call 911 and wait? :headscratch

It's all situation dependent.

Quarter mile? That's only 440 yards; do I have my Enfield with me (more often than you might think) and a clear shot? Does anyone closer appear to be taking or preparing to take potentially effective action to deal with the problem? There are just too many variables to prescribe a single answer for all situations. The only simple answer is that, given whatever information is available to me at the time, if it looks like I can do something to alleviate the danger, I'm not going to walk away and pretend it's not happening.
