Will keep an eye out for your pics in the EDC. Did you start carrying it as soon as you purchased it.

No. I had my G22 on under a large polo shirt and then did a ride along in the afternoon with a friend that is a cop. Once I got home I cleaned the G27 and then tried it on in various locations.

There was a guy in my CHL class that had a brand new gun out of the box (don't know make/model) and it jammed on him constantly because it still had whatever they but on the gun to protect it from the manufacturer. Since I had the G22, I felt it was best to leave the G27 in the case until I could clean it properly.

The same thing happened to a few people in my class. They had multiple jams. Yeah Straight from the box it needs a detailed and through cleaning.

Ok. To pass the time a little better, I went and bought a cheap uncle mike's IWB holster to try different positions with my full size PX4 storm before I lay down the cash for a good holster. So far for my body type (6 ft - 210) and printing concerns, I have settled on 10-11 o'clock right handed draw. Sitting down will be hard to do, so I am still working on that. Is anyone else walking around the house like an idiot with the girlfriend laughing at you? HAHA.

Took the G27 (aka Baby Glock) to the range today. Very impressed with the accuracy of this little gun. Kick was a bit more than expected but not excessive. Also did the Wally Walk with it afterward to buy groceries. I was conscious of the gun the entire time but having checked the mirror several times this morning, I felt confident it wasn't printing. I am sure that after awhile this will become more natural.

Any special cleaning instructions out there for weapons of choice? I hope my plastic is in the box tomorrow. I will be calling in the a.m. to see the exact day it was mailed. I know I am anxious.

I have used Hoppe's #9 products for years with decent results. I was speaking with the range master at BPS yesterday to see if there was something better to use. He suggested Break Free CLP. Not the spray but the bottle with the small tube. He said that SAPD and the military both use it with good results. I bought a bottle and cleaned the gun after firing at the range yesterday. It appeared to do a pretty good job. What I really liked was the ability to apply just a small drop of lubricant to the areas that Glock recommends with that small tube. With the Hoppe's bottle I would oil the areas and then have to go back with a rag to clean up the excess.

Here's hoping your plastic arrives soon! :cheers2:

No updates for me yet. I decided to try to call them today but it says due to high call volume, they cannot take calls at this time.

@pogiboi: You're probably still a couple days away. Mine took about 9 days from mailing to first update.

Hey guys/gals...another August applicant here. Thought I would join you and provide my timeline for everyone else that is also waiting.

So far...my app has flown through the system. Mailed the paperwork on Aug. 8 from Dallas and the DPS website indicated on Aug. 19th that my license had been mailed. That's less than 2 weeks. I had filled out and paid for the application online about a week before I mailed the packet off so that might have gotten the ball rolling a little earlier than I am accounting for.

Does anyone know if they start the BG check prior to receiving any paperwork in the mail? You would think they would but this is, after all, the government we are talking about here.

Cheers!

Welcome TXCHL7474. Feel free to post your timeline in your signature via the User Control Panel. Since I haven't received my first update yet, I don't know what information is available on the CHL status page. Did your status show any steps completed before the first update?

Here is what was displayed on the DPS site and when it went from "Yellow" to "Green" (i.e., completed). You should, at the very least, be able to see all of these steps. They should just be displayed as incomplete or under review. Seems as if DPS feedback/progress is pretty inconsistent.

(Again...dropped off the paperwork at a Dallas post office (standard rate mail) on 08/08.)
