Gun Range Charges

Does anyone know of any public gun ranges in the Houston area (preferably on the north side) that charges by the hour or do NOT charge for each gun?

Sometimes I like to shoot a few rounds from other pistols (like my BUG) when I shoot my primary carry weapon. Getting charged an additional full fee for a second gun just doesn't seem right.

What difference does it really make whether I am firing Gun A or Gun B? I'm only shooting one gun at a time and am not using up more range resources.

Other than "Because They Can", why the added charge for a second gun?

I'd gladly drive the extra distance if I could haul out three or four pistols and fire them each for a flat or hourly fee. Any suggestions on where I might be able to do that?

Do private gun clubs permit this?

Every private club that I'm aware of lets you shoot all you want, except for trap and skeet.

Sorry I can't help you in your search. Have you tried http://www.wheretoshoot.org/?

Pasadena Gun Center charges for the lane and for extra targets, not by the hour or by the gun. I have shot 4 pistols in one session and used a few targets.

PSC is the best, but it is on the south side. It is worth the drive and the cost of membership though.

I believe that Shooters Station west of Conroe on 105 charges by the shooter ($12/shooter) and not by either the gun or by the hour. It is a nice clean place, relatively friendly folks, with a good selection of ammo. Check them out at myshootersstation.com. DMG.

(Colonel Sander's cackling evil twin needs to keep his booger hook off the bang switch, though!)

Yeah, I'll second PSC if it's not too far from you it's a no-brainer.

I'll second Shooters Station. It is a very nice indoor range.

The only thing I will miss about north dakota when i leave here is being able to go out in any random field and go shooting. Although we do have a good gun club thats only $50 a year and $5 range fee's.

American Shooting Centers is north of Houston but it may be too far west for you. If you get a membership (225 for individual or 250 for a family up to 4 members) you then have unlimited access to rifle and pistol for as many guns as you want. The membership is a good deal as far as I am concerned since it's less than 20 bucks a month to shoot all I want. I do not know what they charge for "one time use" but I do know you pay extra for each gun.

Here's their fee schedule: http://www.amshootcenters.com/index.php?page_id=19

They're on the expensive side, more than $10 per person. It is a nice facility, though.

What gets me is the charge per target. I go through six targets at a time at my club, just a dot on a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 paper. I shoot multiple targets in a string of shots, which most public ranges won't let you do.

Check out Memorial Oaks Shooting Club, just north of I-10 near N. Gessner.

Are you directly north of Houston in the Spring area?
If you're near Spring, there is a Carter's Country on Treschwig Rd. I'm not sure how many guns are covered under your fee.

If you're closer to Humble and Atascocita, there is a range in Crosby, but it's a membership range. Dues are paid each August (but you can still get in), and are $120 per year for an individual. That's $10 per month. If you go more than once per month, it's worth the money.

I live about 3 miles from ASC and I shoot almost anywhere else.

We had a family membership for a year that we used a lot, however you can only stand at the firing line. No drawing, rapid fire, movement, setting up reactive targets, etc. Sure they have some steal, but that costs extra.

That's great for working on SOME of the shooting skills that I want to sharpen, but not all of them.

I can't stand going there with 4 guns and getting charged for each gun. That is rediculous and the can't give you a good reason why. It always goes something like, "Well, the range officers have to watch you more closely and clear more guns during the cease fire." What? That doesn't even make sense?

Carter's Country charges by the gun. I asked one time why and nobody behind the counter could tell me.
