Finishes

Hey all,
OK, forgive me for not knowing this off the top of my head. I am building a custom 1911 and am trying to decide on finishes. Mainly, I want a finish that will not rust, scratch, or get blemishes save for extreme neglect or abuse.

I am NOT partial to the black Oxide Kimber uses. it just feels like a not very durable finish to me. I DO like the Glock Black Tenifer finish.

How would plain old stainless do for me? Do I want shiny (pimp) or do I want more of a matte. This is a concealment piece, not a competition (Actually, I have about had it with IDPA) but that is another thread. No one will see it save for me.

ANY and ALL feedback on finishes is welcomed and solicited here. Thanks!!!

Why, a brass finish of course!!!!

Ifn you are gonna carry it concealed, black is the better finish, imho.

If you like black...I'd go with "Black-T".

Personally, I think stainless is pretty hard to beat. If you need to remove any sharp edges there is no need for refinishing. If it gets scratched (not too deeply) just polish it out....or bead blast it if its "matte".

Stainless holds up very well in humid/moist environments.

Here is one I've been carrying for almost 12 years, it hasn't been babied... and has tens of thousands of rounds through it. No telling how many times it has been in and out of a holster.

The only truly pimp color is purple.

You can get it from Duracoat (http://www.duracoat-firearm-finishes.com/). I plan on getting the wife's 24/7 coated when we pick one up for her.

very sexy background for the photo too there Flint. Where's your copy of Civil Disobedience though?
