(semi-sarcasm) They will define "near a window" as inside any structure with a window, regardless of distance from the window.

Even if you detach a scope from a rifle, put the rifle back in the safe, and use the scope to glass the sky for the 50,000-year green comet, in Lost Angeles you'd probably get reported as being an active shooter.
