Anyone have one? Opinions?

It looks like it has a rail... what kind of tac- light is best for it?

We are thinking of switching from M&P 40's to Glocks in the near future. Some of the officers did not like the M&P, especially the slide stop not being large enough to use as a release. Most of them preferred the M&P to the 4043 it replaced though.

My experience is that S&W is still having some quality control problems, though not as bad as in the past. They have solved their customer support problems and gave us really great service. They even replaced a slide for us as a warranty claim when it started to show some surface rust (and I was blaming the agent who had the pistol, but they took it back).

And we are a small agency with only a 100 gun purchase most of the time. This is not enough to get a really top quality response or purchase from a company like DPS gets with a couple thousand weapons at a time. So I am convinced they really do have better customer service now and not just worried about the large customer.

Doesn't S&W make an extended slide release for the M&P?

I agree that it's useless, but I just don't use mine.

I love my regular size M&P

Decided on a New XD 40SC - 449.00 with an extra 12 round mag  at the Dallas gunshow ...

Nitrogen, yes they do make the extended release, and even put it on some agents weapons at no charge. When most of the agents heard it was an option, they would not pay to get a state owned weapon modified (which I agree with). The ones who got it from S&W were happy after that.

Mark,

Well, that is a good choice too. I was looking at an XD today and seeing if I want one to play with.

Back to your original question, I have the M&P in the 9mm versions, both compact and full sized and love them.

I don't have any problem operating the slide release, but I'm not a LEO either, so maybe I'm missing something.

Visit the M&P Forum for all the facts/opinions you can digest.

I have a M & P 40 caliber and a M & P 9mm compact. My full sized 40 has been perfect through about 2500 to 3000 rounds. No problems at all, not even a hiccup. My 9mm compact has had some feed problems. I have sent it back to S & W twice and just got it back last friday but haven't gotten to the range yet to see how it runs after repairs. They sent me a extra magazine for my inconvience which I thought was very nice of them.
I own quite a few S & W's and on the rare occasions I've had to deal with their customer service they have been great to work with. They will send a free UPS shipping label and repairs are done in a timely manner.
To sum it up, I really like my MP's!
OOPS! Almost forgot, my compact has the extended slide release but the full sized 40 caliber does not. The extended is easier to use.
