Does anyone happen to know if the San Antonio Municipal Auditorium is 30.06 posted? A group from our church is going to see Casting Crowns there on this Thursday night. A few of us are CHL holders and were wondering. I thought about calling but so few who are not CHL holders actually know what a legal sign is. I'm not sure I would get anything but the standard answer that they don't allow firearms.

I will post there if I see a sign when we go. I am just trying to decide if I want to take the chance if there might be a sign. I don't like the idea of having to leave my gun in the car.

Given that its name is "Municipal" I suspect it is owned by the city of San Antonio, in which case they cannnot ban CHL holders.

It is listed on the "Official Website of the City of San Antonio" ( http://www.sanantonio.gov ) under the recreation/convention facilities link ( http://www.sanantonio.gov/convfac/MA/maoverview.asp ). I believe all the facilities listed there are city owned.

http://www.ci.sat.tx.us/convfac/MA/maoverview.asp looks to be a government website, and has an identical page for the Auditorium.

It would appear to me it is a government facility, and as long as it is not hosting an event where CHL is otherwise prohibitied (e.g. school event, sports event), you should be able to carry.

However, it is not me that is going, so go check it out yourself to be sure. I believe there are phone numbers on the page you could call an simply ask if it city or county owned.

I wondered about that but I didn't know if they did any kind of checks at the door. I would be caring in my ankle holster because my IWB holster in not in yet.

You should consider getting a lock box then for your car then. I purchased a semi-cheap $25 box, purchased some steel cable, made loops on the end of it, and locked the box to the back of my passenger seat by running the cable through 2 holes drilled into the bottom

Thats the other thing we will be riding with someone else so I know them well enough to know they won't mind if I leave it but I just don't want to have to. I am going to order a Console Vault from http://www.consolevault.com/ for my new truck.

I called just for grins the guy who answered said it was city owned. I ask what the CHL policy was and was told that city policy prohibited concealed handguns. I then asked if they had signs up he said he did not think so but that it was standard city policy.

I have not been there in a number of years, so I can not say if they have a 30.06 sign up or not. But by looking at the website it seems that they are owned and run by the city. So I would think that you are good to go.

On a side note texasgirl, if you are looking for a good place to park while at the concert, First Baptist Church of San Antonio, is accross the street. And if they are still doing it, the youth group uses the events at the Municipal as a fund rasier for summer trips. At least they did when I was in the youth group there. It used to be like $5 to park there, and all of the money went to the youth working that night, an account with the church, to use for the mission trips. Hope you have fun.

How can they keep you from carrying, there are no court offices in that building?

Thanks for letting me know about the parking at the church we'll have to check that out when we get there. My hubby and I work with our youth group so I am alway up for supporting other groups if possible.

Galveston is the same way. They have an ordinance prohibiting CHL carry on city property.

I don't know what they would do if they caught someone. It has never happened, AFAIK.

IMHO, such ordinances are unenforceable.

If they have metal detectors or searches and tell you you can't carry, you're sunk.

That's the only thing I am worried about now.

Doesn't SA have some ordinance about folding pocket knifes or something like that also. I guess before long they will ban rocks too you never know when some dangerous rock will just go out and randomly kill or injure someone.

There is an ordinance banning lock blades in San Antonio. There has been lots of talk about it on here.

I think the TSRA needs to look into these situations. The ordinances are clearly in conflict with state law. I agree that they are not enforceable. I think that the cities should either repeal them or instruct their various departments (including the police obviously) that they are not to be enforced.
