The last time I qualified for the instructor 4 years ago, the instructor I used would not let me single action fire with the revolver, cock-shoot, cock-shoot. He made me double action fire by pulling the trigger for the multiple rounds.

I told him then that there was no rule I knew of that required double action firing. I have a thumb problem that makes it easier for me to single fire.

Am I correct? There is nothing that requires double action with the revolver, is there?

Had a guy in my instructors class, at the DPS range, use a single action for qualifications. So that makes me presume that single action is OK. That and I have never heard of such a rule.

There is no rule mandating Singe Action / Double Action for the LTC Course of Fire. Not for revolvers nor for semi-autos.

That said, I have my students use whatever mode their gun is likely to be used in if used defensively as its carried in the holster. This will be Double Action for revolvers (also Double Action for DA/SA semi-autos if carried w/o the safety engaged). But, its their test, not mine. I don't mandate they use DA; if they have a hand strength / dexterity issue or i assess they need to use SA to pass the test, then so be it.

I've only had 2x students in the past 10 years who didn't pass the test, & neither one was because of mode of fire (1x student using a semi-auto, so this wasn't the issue; 1x instructor who failed the requal miserably on both semi- & revolver).
