"Delinquent Payments"

Hello, I am new to the forum, been lurking for a couple of days now.
I will introduce myself a little, I am 23 years old from Ft. Worth. I have been waiting on others to take a class with me while I saved up some moolah for a gun, classes and licensing fee.
Only question I really have is the delinquent of payments.
I have a school loan out from Texas A&M. I then started attending another school and sent in a in-school deferment paper. Somehow it was never received by the Loan Co. I think I was about 3 months or so late on payments by the time I knew the deferment had not gone through and sent another one off. They finally received it and granted me my deferment. This happened back in either fall of 04' or spring of 05'.
Will this cause any problems that you guys know of? I since have kept up with the loan and sent in my deferment slips in and made sure they were deferred.
Thanks

I think that would depend on if they applied the deferment to the late payments or if they still want you to pay the late payments.

Here's the law on student loans:
(12) has not been finally determined to be in default on a loan made under Chapter 57, Education Code;
That's a specific type of student loan (don't ask me what it means), and you have to be "finally determined to be in default." To get to that point, you would have received a series of nastygrams from the state.
It most likely doesn't apply to you, but I have no way of knowing what kind of loan you have or what state it is in.

After the deferment took place, everything was ok. They did not need anything else from me until the semester was up and that was another deferment slip from me. I have to mail them in twice a year for each semester.
The only thing I have recieved was from the Loan Co. stating I was so many months late and I owe X amount. I explained the situation that I sent off a deferment slip and they advised me to fill out another and have my current school contact them for enrollment verification.

CLTX11 - welcome to the forum!
If you are currently in school and in deferment status, or if you are currently making payments, then you are good to go. Even if you have past due payments, but are making regular payments now, then you are also good to go.
They are mainly concerned with people who have skipped out on their TGSLC loans, and are not making any attempt to repay. All that said, just make sure you have the deferment paperwork from your loan company, in case DPS requests more info from you.
What if you are already in default.

I am already in default and it is being garnished from my paycheck. Trust me its quick I went from being late to being garnished in under 6 months. But thats another story. My CHL expires in 2009 but my student loan will be payed off in Mar 2008. Am I still good to go for my renewal since I will no longer owe the State of Texas any money?

Aric - because you are in repayment status, even by garnishment, you should be fine.

Thank you very much, sounds like I should be in the clear on it then. It has been at least 2 years since I was "late" on my payments. I should be taking classes later than expected but January sounds about right.
Again thanks for the welcome and the help!
