Okay all - I have a chance to get some new equipment here. I lost a couple of things off of the back of my bicycle on Wednesday (see other post for details) and now need to replace my belt and my knife. I think I have the knife part figured out. I originally had this one : http://crkt.com/m16zytel.html and have just oreded one of these (found it for a great price) : http://crkt.com/mytighe.html I would love some feedback on the new one (the My Tighe).

Now about the belt. I had a Galco belt ( http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterP3.asp?Pr ... alogID=254 ) and am now seriously thinking what the right way to go would be. I could just get another one like that. Or I could call up Tucker and get a belt ( http://rlcompanyusa.stores.yahoo.net/newtrgunbe.html ) or I could go with something like a Wilderness Instructor belt ( http://store.thewilderness.com/index.ph ... 50dd22bfb3 ) and save a few bucks. I don't rapel often so that is a feature of the Instructor belt that I would probably never use, but I have heard great things about their ability to carry weight that it stays in the running. I would basically be using this for every day wear (OWB) with jeans so it doesn't have to be fancy, but I do like leather... Opinions welcome.

I have a 5-stitch Wilderness that's great at keeping heavy stuff right where it belongs. It makes even a full-size Taurus PT-99 comfortable IWB, and can carry a lot of other junk without flopping too.

The hook side of the Velcro on it, OTOH, leaves a bit to be desired; it's only stitched around the edge, and started coming loose after a few months. I stitched it to the top layer of the web in a grid pattern over the whole piece with an upholstery needle, and it's been fine for about a year now.

I wouldn't want to use it as a climbing safety clip-in point by itself, even in an emergency, due to ergonomics, (you don't want a fall stopped by just a waist belt if you like your spine intact) but it could make a really good place to clip in if you had to, for example, be pulled from deep water. (Putting on a harness while treading water doesn't sound like much fun, and the belt is definitely strong enough to take it, and a slow steady retrieval pull is a lot different than the stop at the end of a fall.)

If you want a good leather belt and would like to save a little $$, check out Looper. http://looperlawenforcement.com/looper- ... -belt.html $29.99 is a hard price to beat for a good gun belt.

I can't recommend Don Hume belts anymore. On both of mine the finish is cracking and I waited months to get them. But, hey, they were cheap. ($34.99 at Red Diamond Police Supply)

It was under $60 shipped and I got it in about 3 days. I don't know if they are always that fast, but I was impressed. Not crazy about the buckle, but it's easy to replace and the original is not that bad.

I picked up a Comp-Tac belt at the Texas CHL Forum Day at PSC, and wish I'd bought one earlier. Well-made, and I particularly like that the front ends of the belt are tapered. I have several good leather belts, but I'm starting to think that a Kydex insert is the way to go.

I ordered a belt last weekend from Looper. I haven't recieved an e-mail confirming the order yet. I e-mailed them to make sure they got the order but they haven't returned my e-mail yet. It says on their website that all Looper made products will ship 72 hours after the order was received and they will send an e-mail telling when it was shipped. The payment has already gone through paypal and been drawn from my bank. Has anyone here ordered from them before? I am starting to get a little worried.

No experience with them - sorry. But most likely there is just a small hangup... Any chance you can call them?
