Below are two tools.
In the condition pictured (
Pistol empty no ammo available/ Pipe Wrench as per usual), would you walk in front of both?
Why or why not?

I routinely walk in front of the barrel of an unloaded revolver or pistol. That is what the range rules require. You have to lay the open, unloaded weapon on the bench with the barrel pointing downrange when you manipulate targets.
If the point is that an unloaded weapon is as harmless as a pipe wrench, I agree.

Given the scenario as stated, I would have no problem walking in front of either.

Yes. The only time I wouldn't walk in front of the muzzle of a firearm is if it was in someone's hand. That's when it becomes potentially dangerous.
I think we all have walked in front of the muzzles of firearms at some point or another. Besides the scenario Jim mentioned (that we've probably nearly all been in at some point) there are other situations...Walking past the end of a display case in a gunshop for instance. Or down the aisles of gunshow. I'd find it hard to believe that this could ever be entirely avoided.

If I unloaded the pistol before putting it down or physically checked it myself if someone else "unloaded" it then I would have no problems walking in front of either object.

In the hands of a badguy and I KNEW the pistol would be unloaded I would fear the pipewrench more

If a gun is sitting on a table and nobody/nothing is touching it, I'll walk in front of it without even worrying if it's loaded.

Actually...I am trying to connect some dots. This will tie in with the poll that was taken...and also lead to another question.
As in the poll, I am NOT trying to set anyone up...or condemn anyone's position. Just want to know peoples thoughts.
Need a few more responses before we move on.

Sure, I'd walk in front of both.
Both are tools that are not being used and neither is threatening in it's pictured form.

I would walk in front of both, harmless just sitting there.
