I have found that recently, when shooting my (I know you all hate them) Beretta 92, that the slide fails to lock back after finishing a magazine.

now, my question is this, is this the fault of the recoil spring, the magazine follower (it is a MecGar), or perhaps the spring in the slide release button?
I reeeeeeally don't think it's me, but stranger things have happened.

opinions? (other than if it's not a 1911, it's schlock)

try a different magazine. ;)

There are a few of us P92 fans here. I don't know the problem is but I would bet that its something with the follower. Mecgars are supposed to work with the Berretta, and I read somewhere that they manufacture some of the Mags for Beretta. Does it lock back after manually ejecting the last round?

nope, that's the problem.
well, guess I'll have to go back to the ten round mags it came with...

+1 I would put my bet on a bad magazine spring.

Bad mag would be the 1st guess..but a better solution is to get a 1911

I really like the Beretta 92F (just a bit bulky in my hands)

Compare a mag that locks the slide back with the one that doesn't. See if the part of the follower that pushes up the slide lock goes up as far. Measure from the cut in the magazine where the magazine release engages to the place on the follower that contacts the slide lock.

I had the same problem on a different gun. I had to sand on the sides of the follower to allow it to rise up farther inside the magazine body.

Lack of lubrication will keep slides from locking back after the last shot also. Except on a Glock!

Try watching your grip to see where all of your fingers are in relationship to the slide release. If your thumb, etc. is near the slide release, you might be inadvertently pressing it. This is a common problem to those of us with Sig p239s.

Yes, definitely check your grip. I thought my 92 was defunct but it was just my grip over the slide release.

hate them? why in the world would any body hate them? men and women of our armed forces carry them every day. the very first pistol i ever shot was a beretta 92, and if that individual ever decides he doesnt want it any more its all mine!!
