I live in Texas, my buyer lives in texas, can I ship the gun directly to him via US Postal service or how............what are the rules! Do I need a FFL holder involved?

You can ship direct without FFL but not with USPS.

You must ship UPS or FedEX and should be shipped overnight and tracked. You do not have to tell the carrier that it is a gun (and best not to). You only have to check a box on the airway bill saying the package does not contain any "Dangerous Goods".

Somone recommended Lone Star Overnight for shipping withing the state:http://www.lso.com/. It looks like they're much cheaper than the big companies.

I have not used them.

I called LSO and they will accept firearms for shipment. The price they quoted me was about in line with FedEx et al though! Image

If they will pick it up at your house, that avoids the hassle of going to a FedEx or UPS center. And your money stays in Texas, if that means anything.

You didn't state if the gun was a long gun or handgun. Long guns, IIRC, can be shipped USPS by private owners. Handguns cannot. Otherwise, what everyone else has said is correct.
