Bank robbers in the hood yesterday

Yesterday afternoon I was working from home when the sound of a helicopter circling overhead made me look outside and there were DPS troopers and SWAT guys with AR15s all around my neighborhood

turns out that there was a bank robbery about a mile from my house, they wrecked and fled on foot, one was caught right away and one was holed up somewhere in our neighborhood... glad I was home as I have a wife and 3 kids who stay home during the day and while she has access to her pistol and a tactical shotgun... glad I was there

They finally got the guy, about a hundred yards down the block, they sent in the dogs and they got the guy...

Always good to be prepared and I think it opened up my wife's eyes a bit

Several years ago my inlaws had a similar situation. A lady down the street had a home-invasion at night... but the police showed up before the BG's could drive away with the loot. The BG's fled into the neighborhood on foot, going house to house, trying to get into other homes while police sealed of the neighborhood and had helos searching overhead.

Every resident on the street was either waiting in their house with a loaded gun in hand or wishing they had a gun.

I agree, too many people think that they are immune from trouble when at home, because their neighborhood is "safe". It doesn't matter how safe you think your neighborhood is, sometimes trouble finds you without your looking for it.

I believe in LT's signature, "Carry 24/7 or guess right".

My problem is deciding on a gun; I once spent so long standing there with a .45ACP in hand wondering whether I should grab the pump 12ga (five 00Buck and four more in the Speedfeed) or the semiauto .243 (ten 100gr JSP, two spare 10rd mags of same, and 4rd mag of 85gr hardball) that the guys who had pulled up in the driveway had left before I made up my mind. :confused5

Of course, if they'd tried to break in, I probably wouldn't have asked them to wait around while I pondered.
