range report: steyr m40a1 & mossberg 500

So, this past saturday I finally went to the range to try out my new Steyr M40-A1 I got at the last gun show. My girlfriend also gave me a late birthday present, a Mossberg 500 12gauge from academy (basic model w/ wood stock and 28" ported barrel).
I first tried a set of sporting clays with a few others. This mossberg is my first shotgun, and this was my second time every firing one (the first was a long time ago at a boy scout event). After the first few shots, I got the hang of it, and finished the rest of the course pretty well.
Then I went over to the pistol range and put about a hundred rounds through the Steyr. The 40s&w had a bit of a kick to it, but overall, the pistol felt great and was accurate whenever I had the patience to aim rather than point. The hits on the target below (7yards) are a bit all over the place, but I was mostly checking for reliability rather than for precision shooting (only one jam, and that was when I hadn't put the magazine in completely).

Edit: I also just today got some Mosin Nagant rifles as my birthday present to myself. Gotta try them out sometime soon...
