It says no firearms in their information but does that apply to licensed firearms?

They have security checks, just like an airport, metal detectors and X rays for baggage..

Cruise ships are in international waters and governed by international law. Leave your gun behind.

What prison do they send you to? Or do they just stop the ship, tie you up and make you walk the plank?

In addition to what others have posted, there is a federal law that bans carrying guns on certain "common carriers". I believe this includes commercial passenger (cruise) ships in US waters.
Can't find the statute, but I'll bet someone can.

FWIW, you can carry legally on the Galveston-Bolivar ferry. They have security checks and occasionally find someone carrying illegally.
The ferry is owned and operated by the state of Texas.

When I asked a cruise line what authority they banned carry under, they stated it was "International Maritime Law" but could and would not provide a citation. "We said so, and that's that, and you don't have to go on the cruise if you don't want to."

Well, ITAR would prohibit the export of a firearm so that would be one US law.
But their basic authority is "private property"

I used to work as a senior deck officer onboard Carnival cruise lines, Renaissance Cruises, and briefly with Royal Carib. I can tell you that if it is discovered you will be immediately ejected at the next port. It is not about Maritime law so much, as it is that the captain is judge, jury, and executioner. They have a brig on every cruise ship and they will stick you there at the captains orders. The will walk you thru a metal detector at the port. They will also x-ray your bags.

Will not be bringing any of my guns on the cruise out of Galveston next Sunday. Anyone else possibly taking the Thanksgiving cruise, we could say hi.

Guns!! They will go ballistic if you try to bring a supply of grog on board. I've become quite adept at smuggling a few bottles on board, but I ain't messing around with sneakin' any guns aboard. Most of the cruise ships around here stop off at Mexico. We all know what bad news it is bringing guns to Mexico.

Sword or saber for that one; or BIC pen (mightier than the sword on inflated pirates anyway).

For the inflated pirate, a BIC lighter might work even better.

Actually, grog is kosher. Corporate does not want booze brought in as 40% of revenue comes from liquor. You could bring a bag with 40 pounds of booze and check it and you will get it in your stateroom. The average passenger (pax in cruise ship terms) brings onboard 35 pounds. If it is booze, or tropical shirts...it is not distinguished. You can leave you booze out in the open in your stateroom and no steward will ever...ever say a word. They are paid 185.00 per month, and 90% of their pay is tips. As long as you do not bring weapons or drugs on a ship...everything else is OK.
