Last night some of the ladies in the neighborhood were taking their nightly walk. A neighbor pulled up next to them and started yelling and cussing at them about walking in the street. When one of the ladies asked him to watch his language because there were children present he jumped out and told her to suck his ****. Needless to say the ladies called the police when they got home but they were told by the officer that there was nothing that they could do because it is a gated community. He even said that we could drive around drunk and there is nothing he could do about it. I have only lived in a gated community for a short while and I have never heard of such. What would you have done other than beet the crap out of him. It makes me wonder if living in a gated community is such a great thing.
This is kind of an odd post for my first post here but sense you are all fellow Texans I thought it would be a good place to go. I am going back and forth as to weather or not to get a CHL because I don't carry. I do almost always have a handgun in my vehicle though so I do frequent this forum.

You really do need to get your CHL. The traveling law was not really settled and you open yourself up to a lot of problems.

As far as the gated community goes, If the LEO told you they have no authority inside the gates then they have no authority to enforce the law should you call them to your house. I would seriously question this with your agency. You could also contact the attorney general's office. They could more than likely answer your questions.

If this happens to the ladies again, they should go down to the police station and ask to file harrassment charges.

If he is, and if it were me and the individual disrespected my wife in such a manner, I would seriously investigate whether or not he has a history of such behavior in the neighborhood. Criminal and civil action would certainly be warranted given his behavior.

Nothing works better than time in the slammer or forking out green for attorneys and damages.

Sounds like y'all need to start up a local G.O.B.A. chapter (Good old boys association) and break this guys knee caps....

This also may serve as a wake up call for the ladies to get thier CHL. Even gated communities in Anytown, USA aren't as safe as we weould like to think.

A gated community needs to hold a CHL class!!

Since the local LEO feels he has no duty to act, why not walk while toting your favorite black shotgun or rifle? I believe that is legal anyway! 8)

Sounds like a very insecure person to jump out of a vehicle and tell another man's wife to do something like that...

My wife knows just how to handle a person like that...

She'd lead him on a tour of that gated community that he'd never forget...By the giblets...

Funny how the CHL class, the portion that discusses "conflict resolution" really applies here...

I could call every single one of you the dirtiest names and disgusting metaphors in the book...And not one warrants anything more than that little smile in response...I think that actually hurts more than a well placed shot through the nose...

Its actually amazing (when you think about it) that the decision to use force or deadly force is up to the offender, not you...From a certain point of view...

Nobody I know ever wakes up and decides this is the day I use deadly force on someone...

I think that is one of the most important parts of the CHL cirriculum...Sure the Penal Code is an interesting study, the range quals is just plain fun...But the Conflict Resolution part of the class, to me, is where you really learn a lot about yourself and human nature...

BSB, I wouldn't tell you to go take the CHL class, and get your license so you can take care of situations like this in that manner...

I would encourage you to take the class as to learn how to really handle situations like this in a manner that displays a mature, leadership role in your community...Not that I think you don't posess those qualities now...

The guy does live in the community. I live in a fairly new track that still has some homes being built. He is one of the newer owners and already has a reputation on his street. He yelled at the kids for returning his loose dog. The lady that brought this to my attention brings her son to my kids bus stop every morning and thats how I found out about the guy. Her son was with them last night and it scared him enough to make him cry. He is probably 9-10 yrs old.
I don't plan on getting a CHL just so I could go shoot the guy. I am just glad that my wife was not there last night. I am pretty worked up over this and she wasn't even there. I was interested to hear if any of you live in gated communitys and if so why can't the police do anything. It makes me want to dirve around the track drinking and shooting my gun out the window. Oh I guess that wouldn't be a good idea. I foget that I am turning 40 this week. :D But seriously if they can't do anything in a community than what can they do if there is someone robbing houses or any other illegal activity here? I know that you can't arrest a guy for yelling but I would that if he grabs his junk and says suck my **** that could be sexual harrasment or lude behavior. I am going to volunteer to walk with these ladies if they would like. I could use the exercise any ways. I shoot cowboy action and it might be neet just to put on my holsters and go for a walk.

There has been quite a bit of discussion on this forum and http://www.packing.org regarding the new "traveling" law. I have no idea how the LE agencies in your area plan on interpreting the new law, but the Harris County DA does not seem to be able to read. If you keep one in the car, you really should obtain your CHL. It could save you a lot of trouble. JMHO.

I own property in a gated community in Kerrville, and I know for a fact that LEO will enforce the law inside the gates. LEO has access to the gates.

I don't know anything about gated communitys, but I am still not convinced that he can't still be charged with at least a disorderly conduct.

Don't forget the Civil options.

Another comment; It is against the law to "open carry" in TX so I wouldn't wear the cowboy gunbelt even without the six guns. Somebody might think you are armed and or law officers may show up. You are OK to tote a rifle or shotgun as far as I know. The "walking ladies" should have a cell phone with them for just such a situation.

I would recommend the giant economy size Bear repellant pepper spray!!!!! If anybody jumped out of the car to confront me I would see that as an "attack" by them and get my back to the wind and fog away.

I would like to know more about the law officers not being able to do anything inside a gated community. Does the community have private security? If the cops can't come in there, it sounds like a Free Fire Zone to me. Round up the GOBs and give the guy some free lessons on manners. With the right bunch of guys you could have the most quiet, polite and orderly neighborhood in this part of the state.
You might want to look in some of the books written by Geo. Hayduke for information on how to deal with impolite neighbors, I think he has a suggestion or two.

I just talked to a criminal investigator in this area, he advises go to your D.A.'s office and press charges.

No matter what happens, I think it is good advice for the ladies to carry some kind of spray when they're out walking. You can pick it up at all kinds of places. "FOX" seems to be the board favorite. I've been known to carry CS.

+1 on the spray. I think we should all have some handy all the time.
