Hey all,
Newly registered, but a long time reader of the forum.

I am a new resident (9 months now) to your wonderful state and I am slated for my CHL class next week.

The question I have is this:

I have a misdemeanor conviction from California. In CA we didn't classify A,B, or C misdemeanors. Is there a way to tell what classification it falls under? The maximum penalty was 6 months in jail and/or $1000 fine.

Also, do I have to send certified copies of the disposition if it was from 10 years ago?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum and the great state of Texas.

The maximum penalty for a class B misdemeanor is a $2,000 fine and 180 days in jail, so what you had is about equivalent to a class B.

DPS asks for certified copies of all dispositions, but in reality they are somewhat flexible. If you can get a certified copy easily, it's better to do so.

Good luck with your CHL.

Thanks for the quick response. Hopefully I'll be posting in the waiting room soon enough!
