Some BB guns or `airsoft' guns fire plastic or non-metallic materials. Chief Supt Phil Hollowood, the officer in charge of GMP's Specialist Operations, which includes the Firearms Unit, said: "It is great news that so many BB guns are being taken off the streets of Manchester."
I'm ashamed to admit my family came from the UK right about now.

"....BB guns are not toys and there is no reason for anyone to have one."
There's plenty of reasons to have a BB gun... that's why they're so popular and so many people are willing to spend money to buy them.

I guess I can't see the wisdom in confiscation of BB guns but that's no different than my opinion regarding handguns.
Perhaps a law limiting the possession of BB guns to non-felons would be a reasonable compromise! Think about the opportunities - Concealed BB gun licenses with associated background checks, "BB Gun Mega Shows" where you could purchase (no questions asked) from a private owner, black market BB gun sales, and the infamous "Saturday Night Special" Daisey.
Sure seems like the deeper you dig, the worse my idea gets. Guess a stupid idea is still a stupid idea. Too bad Chief Supt Phil Hollowood, the officer in charge of GMP's Specialist Operations doesn't have the insight that I have. He may even conclude that he could join me in the Stupid Idea club.

Just wonder when drawing a gun becomes illegal. Hopefully soon.

I think this line from the article says it all:
The seizure of the mini-motorbikes is the latest in a series of crackdowns on similar vehicles. Salford's trading standards boss, Ron Pennington, said: "They had the usual dangerous design faults."
Why do I get the feeling that "usual dangerous design faults" translates into American as "They worked and were fun, but some unsupervised kid could hurt themselves on them"?

MARCH 19, 2008 WASHINGTON DC--Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) and Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) today introduced the Family Inorganic Matter Act, legislation that would establish a coordinated federal response to address growing rates of childhood injuries from stones and unsecured metal implements.
Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that the number of injuries to children under 17 years of age due to impact or abrasion from loose mineral or metallic objects has increased 22 percent between 2000 and 2005.
The danger is not limited to children. Of the 455,000 reported incidents in 2005, 132,000 instances, or 29 percent, involved adults over the age of 21. Even though the most serious injuries are recorded in adults, children are the most vulnerable.
"This is a pervasive problem that has been overlooked for far too long," said Representative McCarthy. "In 2004, throughout the entire country, 42,636 people died in traffic accidents. Compare that number to the astounding 414,00 who suffered blunt trauma, abrasion, laceration, or even worse from rocks, bricks, nails, or metal tools left inexplicably--and negligently--lying unsecured and within easy access. And the number of injuries continues to grow unchecked."
The bill would improve understanding and awareness of the environmental and social factors that impact inorganic matter trauma, improve patient post-trauma self-management, increase funding for inorganic matter surveillance at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and require the federal government to establish a strategic plan to address the epidemic. An important rider on the bill will create a system of registration and licensing for power tools such as electrical saws and drills.

When I first read the lead-in on the "Family Inorganic Matter Act" being proposed by Sen. Clinton, I thought they were talking about the findings of a previously unannounced brain byopsy. After reading further, I see that it was even more stupid than that!

I can't buy this one
It's a little hard to believe. even for Hillary, she might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but she isn't a moron.
This has the stench of Onion but I couldn't find it there or on a general google search. Do you have a reference so we can properly debunk or find legitimate?
