Someone on another forum commented that you have to apply to the DPS to be sent an Application Packet. Read the same thing on the DPS website.

I thought the DPS supplied those packets to Instructors? Thats how I got mine. Something change?

Nope. A packet is sent to instructors with every certificate ordered.

There was a time when the app. had to be requested, but like Investigator said we have them for you now.

This would be a good time to remind the renewals that you do have to request your renewal app. I have someone in almost every class that brings the reminder letter but hasn't read it, you are required to call or go on-line and request your renewal packet.

Investigator has found a statement in the law that makes us both believe that the renewal application packet should be mailed with the reminder and without having to request it, but when he asked about that and read it to them in our last instructor class, they he-hawed around for awhile and then moved on without giving a good answer.

Quick question on the application packet:

My son requested his from DPS over three months ago and it has yet to arrive. Is this normal, or is there a number he should be calling to check on it ?

Thanks in advance !

Yes, Tell him to check on it , he should have recieved his packet in 7 to 10 days from the date he requested it.

I am wondering why they are not falling hand over foot sending those renewal packages out???

Is there an assumption that we are just sending them friendly greetings and salutations???

Makes me wonder sometimes...

I'll have to send it a big letter sized sheet with the following in 1" letters on a contrasting background...

"Please send me my Texas CHL Renewal packet"

Of course it will be in English and Spanish...

Hi guys, a similar question.

I went online to the DPS website, and filled out the application and paid for my initial license (140.00). The next week, I went and took the CHL course. During the course, we were given a DPS CHL packet, and completed everything (finger print cards, photos, affidavits, etc).

Here is my dilemma. Now I have two packets:

1) The one I paid for an was sent to me with a PIN and tracking number
2) The one with everything completed, with a different tracking number

I called the CHL division of DPS, and they said to just take the application from the DPS packet from when I applied online, and insert all the other completed documents from the packet from my CHL class.

This will make the tracking number on the application different from the tracking number on all the other forms. She said it doesn't matter. I am concerned that this is a major issue and it will be kicked back.

Thoughts?

Hello suXor,

Use the license number they gave you on-line, that is your actual license number and shows that it is already paid for and should be on a blue application form, draw one line through the red number on the top right hand corner of the yellow application and replace it with your number, then where they had you put that red number on your finger print cards replace it with that number they assigned you, use the extra photo holder and redo it using your number, doing this will make less chance of a delay on the other end. If this is not clear call me a 409-945-6636 and I will explain further and walk you through it.

Thanks Tomcat!

I was concerned taht it would end up screwed up. So, if I understand you correctly, use the application form that was generated from my online application. Take that tracking/license number, and replace the numbers on the finger print cards and any other paper work that references it. In addition, use the new photo holder, and fill it out based on the tracking/license number that is on the application I received from the online process.

That is what I figured I should do. I was just concerned with crossing things out and DPS turning it down.
