SAN ANTONIO -- A teenager was shot inside a West Side home under construction by a contractor who was keeping watch because of previous break-ins, police said.

The victim and another teenager gained entry into the home in the 200 block of Early Trail at 1 a.m. by breaking a window, police said.

The noise woke up the contractor, who was asleep. He told police he thought one of the teens was carrying a gun, so he grabbed a pistol and shot one of them in the hip.

The teen was transported to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

His accomplice fled the scene.

Police said that the contractor will not be charged.

The contractor told police he decided to stay in the home because there had been previous burglaries at the residence.

There seems to be a lot more of these stories making the news lately. As more of these stories get press, criminals might decide Texas is not the best state to live in.

Of course the overly dramatic news bimbo leads the story with "How serious are the teen's injuries and what charges is the shooter facing" before handing the story off to the on scene reporter.

Shouldn't that have been "Was the homeowner injured and what charges is the teen facing"

Well - I know what you're saying, but who really cares what charges the teen is facing. I think most people are concerned about if the homeowner is (unjustly) facing charges.

I'm sure we'll hear about the parent raising a stink about their kid being shot. Of course, teaching their kids that stealing is wrong is probably not in their parenting curriculum.

I guess the tax payers are paying for his medical care too. Many health insurance plans exclude coverage for felony activity. And rightfully so! Don't do felonies and criminal activity and you won't need health coverage for thay type of activity.
