"A Google news search using the phrase "Omaha Mall Shooting" finds an incredible 2,794 news stories worldwide for the last day. From India and Taiwan to Britain and Austria, there are probably few people in the world who haven’t heard about this tragedy.
But despite the massive news coverage,
none of the media coverage, at least by 10 a.m. Thursday,
mentioned this central fact:
Yet another attack occurred in a gun-free zone."

Here's the 911 calls...That caller had to be very close to the shooter I believe...

A rifle in an enclosed area is VERY loud..probably not that close..but too close for comfort without an effective way to fight back if the badguy decided to come hunting for you

While I generally would not WANT to have to bring a pistol to a fight with a rifle, the fact is, any real fight is a "Run what you brung" affair. From the limited photos I've seen, I don't' get the feeling the actor was particularly skilled. I am sure there were times that he shot people at distances of only a few meters and he more than likely expected no resistence until police showed up. All that says to me that the average police officer, most CHL holders and just about any competent USPSA/IDPA shooter could have successfully engaged him and saved many lives.
