HIALEAH GARDENS, Fla. -- A man was shot during an alleged home invasion on Saturday, Hialeah Gardens police said. Police said the owner of a residence shot and injured one of several men who were trying to rob him. According to police, four men in a sport utility vehicle followed a man to his home along Northwest 91st Avenue and 119th Street. One of the men got out of the vehicle, put the homeowner in a chokehold and demanded the money he had just withdrawn from an ATM. The homeowner pulled out a gun and shot the man.
"The individual pleaded with him to please let him go or he was going to shoot him," Lt. Carlos Fojo said. "The shooting ensued afterwards and the subject, the robber, was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital." The injured man was airlifted the hospital, Miami Dade Fire said. There was no word on his condition. Police said the other men remain at large.

How many of us remain aware of being followed by another person? How do you know?? What do you have planned to counter such an event?

I think this all comes from general knowledge of what's going on around you. If a car was following me home, I feel like I would notice it. If they followed me into my area (where I know all my neighbors cars), I would certainly notice. Call me crazy, but I don't know that I'd be the guy who let's someone get a choke hold on me. Not acting beforehand in that situation is kind of like putting an oven mitt on a hand you just burned in the stove...

Someone did follow me once. Honking horn flashing his lights, etc. I made 4 right turns in a row to confirm he was on my tail.
Our neigborhood contracts with local LEO to patrol the neighborhood. Called the LEO dispatcher on my cell phone and had the LEO meet me at a nearby parking lot. When the guy following me saw the 2 LEO vehicles I was leading him to he bugged out.

Especially after banking runs, or ATM stops... I'm always making the efforts to be conscious of my surroundings and being prepared.
Always choose an ATM with good sight lines.. the ones in the dark/alley/corner of a bank are the most targeted as you won't see them before it's too late.
Always do a sweep for suspicious vehicles, and persons lingering nearby.
I usually pull around the parking lot once and simply looked for running vehicles pr people standing around that have no business being there.
Don't go at night if you can help it.
When you leave, circle the lot once more and watch for vehicles that leave w/ after you.
If you feel you're being followed, circle a few random residential areas or blocks, no one should make 4 right turns or a random set of random turns that leads back to where you started... If you are being followed don't stop driving, don't panic, don't "run"...
Retain your weapon, or be prepared to... Call 911 (never go out w/ your CCW and no cell phone), alert 911 and attempt to get the info of the car. Get directions from 911 to the nearest police station... alert 911 that you will be headed in that direction...
Drive to PD.... I've been followed once, this worked well for me, and the guy sprinted when he saw where i was headed... he wasn't caught, but he'll think twice hopefully.
