Does any body know anything about the Giles Colt 1911s? John Giles is/was from Odessa Florida. I believe the pistol was made for Bullseye shooting. My question is what kind of loads can I shoot from it?
I also have a Giles 38 Special built on a Colt 1911 frame. It shoots only wadcutters that are flush with the top of the casing. It's a "tack driver."

heard great things about them, never had the fortune to fire one...
i'm not a big "target gun only" fan, but if i were looking for a classy looking 1911 it'd be on a short list.

Yeah they are nice. I think they're pretty rare. I just read an article on the internet that said that in the early 60s there were only six civilian pistolsmiths in the US and Giles was one of them. That's very hard to believe. I also read that Giles was one of the few "master gunsmiths" who could purchase the 38 Special kits from Colt. But that's about all I know.
I just starting getting more into non-target type pistols since I got my CHL. I think that practicing with any gun will help improve me shooting with my carry guns.

They're not that much to look at. The only thing that looks different from a normal Colt Gold Cup is the sights. I think they are called Bomar rib sights. I'll have to drag them out of the safe and see if I can figure out how to post some pics for you.
I found this on a website - the low profile looks like what's on my guns.
