Man Defends Store in Texas City

TEXAS CITY — A would-be robber met the same fate at a Texas City convenience store Friday night as another robber did years ago.
The man, armed with what appeared to be a rifle or shotgun, reportedly went into Jones Grocery, 616 Ninth St. N., about 8:40 p.m. Friday. He demanded cash, and the owner complied.
However, when the robber grabbed the money and ran, he only made it as far as the door, police said. The store owner had reached under the counter and grabbed his own gun, a clear description of which was not available Friday night.
The owner fired three shots, one of which hit the fleeing robber in the head. The man fell, dead.
The robber had not been identified Friday night, but police described him as an African-American man in his late 20s or early 30s.
Police cars and fire trucks blocked off Ninth Street around the store, while investigators talked to witnesses, including the store owner.
The store owner was the same man who shot and killed another robber at Jones Grocery about eight years ago. In that case, an armed man became distracted while robbing the store, and the owner shot him.
Police Capt. Brian Goetchius said detectives would have to conclude interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence at the store.
Texas law does contain a provision allowing a person to shoot someone who is committing a crime on the person’s property.
Some guys ya' just shouldn't to mess with.

Apparently there isn't a website for robbers, that contains stores we suggest you don't rob these peope will end your career

I really love the wording used;
"A would-be robber...."
Sounds to me like he had just graduated to "robber" (note I didn't say "successful robber") and was getting ready to take a few days off when another business owner proved the credo... "Practice makes perfect".
The trend lately in Texas may not be as splashy and "news worthy" as New Jersey eliminating the death penalty but I don't think anyone can argue that the Texas approach is more efficient.

agreed... seems the criminals are just dumb though... i'm not too terribly surprised.
a little party for the people who can sleep a little better tonight knowing one more criminal won't be bothering them.

Please note: The store owner (permanently) stopped the robber who was fleeing with stolen cash. No arrest. No charges.

Fixed it.
There is always a crime being committed on that property. Thank God there is not a shooting for all of them! Someone is likely buying a crack rock as we speak. I drive by the place on a regular basis on my way to a friend's house. I am surprised he has only shot two people through the years.

I wonder where the other two shots went, and am glad that (from what I have deduced) no innocent bystander was injured by the misses!
There is always a crime being committed on that property. Thank God there is not a shooting for all of them! Someone is likely buying a crack rock as we speak. I drive by the place on a regular basis on my way to a friend's house. I am surprised he has only shot two people through the years.
