Anyone daily carrying one of these? I have been carrying a SIG P220, in an IWB Bladetech holster. It conceals well for its' size and weight and the bladetech gives good retention, access and comfort, but I have been wanting something smaller for easier concealability. I refuse to give up the 45 cal (no, let's not start that debate) and the S&W Chiefs Special 45 seems about as small as one can go in a quality DA/SA 45. I would prefer something more SIG like as I have come to like the simplicity of the 'no safety' SIG design. Pull the trigger and BANG! I bought a S&W Chiefs Special 45 recently and a trip to the range proved it to be reliable and accurate, if not particularly pleasant to fire. For carry I need to add trijicons and get a holster, so I thought I would ask for opinions before taking that next $$ step.

WOW... I must have picked the least popular handgun on the planet to get NO responses... does anyone have a reason NOT to carry the S&W CS45??? Or is there just not much experience with them?

I am not a big fan of S&W 3rd gen semi-autos. Since you're so happy with your Sig 220, why not have a look at the 220 compact that's out now? You could even use the same holster. Just a thought.

In my opinion you did well. I own a few 3rd gen S&W's and realy like them. I have never fired a CS45 but can imagine that it would be quite a handfull. But the 3rd gen pistols I've had (and haven't had but have fired) have all been reliable and fun to shoot. The only thing I don't care for on them is the magazine disconnect. But with that said a S&W 908 is in my carry rotation and sees lots of holster time these days.

I have never fired that gun in .45.

My father has one in 9, and it is a fine shooting little gun.

I am a big fan of S&W weapon's. I don't have any experence with the Chief in .45 however the .45 is a well know and proven man stopper, one of the best. Have you been to the range and shot it yet? Give us a report on it.

I looked at the SIG compact.

The Sig is longer, taller, wider and 35% heavier..... but it was a thought....

I had considered going back to a Start PD, which I carried years ago, but it is SA only, and I have decided that DA/SA is the right answer for me. And while the Star was extremely compact and surprisingly accurate, it was the most unpleasant to shoot pistol I have ever tried.

I carry a S&W 457. It is slightly larger than the Chiefs special, but it is still easy to conceal. I have never had any failures with this gun since day one. I fire hot carry ammo and slightly wimpy reloads with no adjustments in between. I nomally shoot a full size 4506 and sometimes the 457 for competition and both have performed flawlessly for many thousand rounds. I like S&W semi's.
