I'm sending my Glock 34 in for repair/replacement this week after cracking the slide a few weeks back. And no, I didn't beat anyone with it nor did I use it as a hammer...Much. Fact is, the gun has well over 160,000 rounds on it (probably closer to 250,000) and was nearing retirement when it gave up the ghost. Back on December 6, I'd commented to one of the DPS instructors at CHL instructor renewal that the gun was over due for a major component failure. Then a week later, mid string, the Glock started shooting a random pattern about six inches to the left of point of aim at seven yards. Took it offline for inspection and found a crack all the way through the steel toward the front of the ejection port. Just wondering if anyone has sent a pistol in for replacement and how long it took Glock to send it back with a replacement slide or new pistol.

Ya know, you'd probably get a lot more life out of your guns if you'd clean and inspect them once in a while...

Sorry to hear the sorry piece of tupperware failed to live up to expectations. Hopefully the customer service people in Georgia can convince the big guy over in Austria that they need to make it right for you.

Sounds like a great pistol..........too bad it's life ran out. That's allot of money in ammo to put through it, for sure!!
Can you let us know the outcome and timeline?

Why would I waste time cleanings and inspecting them? I bought my Glocks only because they were cheaper than my 1911's and and because they are supposed to run forever without cleaning! I'll admit, that gun was run pretty hard...If I cleaned it more than once every 3000 rounds it was only because I had nothing better to do at the time.

I hope you have better luck with Glock than I had with Sig.

Rather than send it back to Glock immediately I would hire one of those mediums that contacts people in the afterlife. Maybe they could make contact with JMB to see if he would give Gaston a few tips on how to design a slide that will last a little longer!!

Yeah, I would except I've cracked a a few more 1911 slides with much lower round counts. I could only hope to see a meeting between JMB and GG in the hear after. May be they'd come up with some kind of really slick 1911/Glock hybrid. 1911 trigger/hammer assembly combined with a Glock top-end and magazines!

Sorry to see that your G34 died. I had a similar problem with a G23. My pistol had around 6,000 rounds through it when the breech face fractured. Through a friend who shoots in all of the Glock factory competions on the East coast I got a name at Glock that really helped me out. They replaced my slide and returned my pistol in 2 weeks.

It was the METAL slide that cracked, NOT the polymer frame. After a quarter million rounds, and I would be willing to guess with very little maintenance. I would ask glock if they could arrange a meeting with Gatson so you could shake his hand.

Make no mistake guys, I'm not at all disappointed with the performance of this Glock. It has performed flawlessly for more than seven years and suffered through an insanely high volume of ammunition and less than stellar maintenance in that amount of time. I figured the fact that it finally died after being owned by two high volume shooters since 1998 would be entertaining for most of you. Especially those who know me and have seen how I've abused it.

Glock has said they will service it but didn't give me a time frame. No biggie, I've got PLENTY of other Glocks and 1911's to shoot in the meantime. If they replace the slide and return the pistol in two weeks, great! If they send me a whole new gun, that's gravy. Even if they balk on the claim I voided the warranty by abusing it, I'll happily buy another. Why? Because this Glock, like my other Glock's has been flawlessly accurate and reliable through out its service life.

Thanks, Guy. I'm such a newbie at this handgun thing that I really needed you to point that out in capital letters. A little sensitve to the word "tupperware" maybe? Yep, a fan of the "all steel 1911s" too, but have owned at least one or two Glocks at a time since 1990. And learned the difference between "their" and "there" about 50 years ago ...
