Sounds like the Harris County GOP is abandoning Rosenthal for his indiscretions.

I hope they choose a candidate that is more friendly towards RKBA and Texas CHLers. Their candidate must file by Wednesday.

Any of you Harris County members have any info? (Cough)Stevie-D?(cough).

I actually told him this would happen in an email awhile back concerning his rogue ways. He responded and of course did not see it my way. One can only hope he sees the light after his departure!

Initially, suggestive emails were disclosed that had been sent to an employee.

Improper, but not always a career ender.

Now they're reporting that this was someone that the DA had been 'involved with' in the 80's and that he had 'awarded' her a job as his personal assistant.

That sounds like enough to end his political career.

Chucky was done in my opinion way before the alleged indescretions, backed up by some suggestive emails saw the light of day...

It does illustrate that if you are going to have an affair...Don't email yer sweety on the company email server???

A serious lack of judgement on that part is icing on the cake...

The only problem with all of this is that I have just heard from our local party officials (last night) that Chucky has been asked to NOT run again for re-election this time, to which Chucky has refused to take that strong advice...

The other issues is that we do not have anyone on radar thinking of running against him or replacing him...This leaves wide open the door for the democrats to challenge this elected office...



And we thought ignoring the intent of the legislature was a problem???

The interview clips we saw last night showed that CR is not only unrepentant, he doesn't think the situation has any bearing on his ability to do his job.

If the Harris County Republican Party withdraws support, and finds someone to carry the party banner before tomorrow's filing deadline, he may learn the voters don't feel the same. Too bad I can't move back into Harris County for a couple of days, and vote against him.

Former Houston Police Dept. Chief C.O. Bradford is running against him as a Democrat. He was Mayor Lee P. Brown's Chief and the guy who accepted a rather large pay raise just over 30 days before retiring. The raise was authorized by lame-duck Mayor Brown so Bradford's retirement would be based on the higher salary.

Chucky feels his personal life doesnt need to be part of this debate. Well he is a public figure.

This just in: Chuck Rosenthal has announed that he has withdrawn. Today's deadline has been extended for declaration to run, because of the Rosenthal broohaw. But Chuck will not be on the ballot.

I heard it as I was driving home just now.
So now we worry about who will replace him?

Jim Leitner is burning the midnight oil to get filed and run on the Republican Party ticket for the Harris County DA job...

I have not found out where he stands on the one issue we had differences of opinion with his predesessor, but I am thinking we may not have too many problems here...

This should prove to be a very interesting "down ballot" race in November...

What's funny is that as soon as the news was made public, Chuck got out of the race...

I don't think Leitner's filing had anything to do with Rosenthal's announcement. Rosenthal announced at 5:35; Leitner had filed just a few minutes earlier (certainly doesn't mean he didn't know about Rosenthal's announcement, though). The deadline was 6:00 p.m. today; if Rosenthal announced his withdrawal, the law automatically extended the filing deadline until Friday at 6:00 p.m. I think Chuck came under huge pressure to formally withdraw before the deadline so that the automatic extension would kick-in.

Leitner took a soft(ish) stance on capital punishment in his 2000 run, but I don't know much else about him.
