Dallas City Councilman calls for crack down on guns

I caught a piece of a news story on WBAP radio today that was quoting Dallas City Councilman Caraway saying that the legislature needed to do something about the 'increasing number of guns..." his quote was cut off in mid-sentence so I don't know what his goal is....but it surely can't be good. I watched the 6pm news on Channel 8 and heard nothing about Caraway, but they did have a story about Dallas PD seizing a " very high powered handgun" recently. Then showed an interview with the DPD Chief, who was talking about ways to reduce gun violence....either to his credit or the news didn't quote it, he made no mention of stricter handgun laws.

I think they may be on to something,if police oficers are disarmed then criminals wouldn't need guns either. :fire but leave mine alone

Someone probably seized a Smith and Wesson model 629 (???) .44 magnum handgun, the most powerful handgun in the world... ;-)

Carraway is a goob...And they are wrong...They are like that annoying New Years party favor that makes that irritating noise when you twirl it around making that clackitty snapping noise...

Just makes you want to take it away in the morning when you are trying to recover from a night of revelry...

The 6pm. news edited out Kunkle's plea for the legislature to pass tougher gun laws. They played the entire sound bite on the 5 o'clock edition. Of course, they didn't say that if they would just enforce the current laws, the effect on crime would be more significant than passing new laws that they don't enforce! The DPD supposedly confiscated a select fire auto pistol. I don't remember what model they said.

Maybe his quote was from this story related to New Year's Eve random gun fire.
Chief Kunkle reminded Dallasites that it is a crime to randomly fire a gun in the city. Even if no one is hurt, it's punishable by up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway, meanwhile, called for stricter laws to pull guns off the streets.

He said he expects to lobby officials in the state legislature during the next term to tighten handgun laws.

The Channel Report actually referred to two different guns. One of which they showed, but I can't remember what it was. It appeared to be Uzi or MAC-10 like. They did say it was a semi-auto that could be converted to full auto. The other gun, the "Very High Powered Handgun" which was said to be able to shoot through "48 layers" including body armor was identified as the FN 57.

As to the call by Carraway for sticter handgun laws - I like to point back to earlier times like the 40's and 50's. Guns could be bought easily with no questions asked and were available at your local hardware store or through the mail. Much more "available" than today, yet far fewer "gun crimes". Gun crime increased with the passage of gun restrictions. The Antis ignore this fact. As I heard someone say the other day, Gun Control is not about Guns, its about Control.

Here is the video about the "very high powered weapon" confiscated by police: http://www.wfaa.com/video/index.html?nvid=204925

It was an FN PS90 (civilian legal version). Of course, the video shows the P90 (select fire version). Some of the comments include: semi-automatice that can be converted to full-auto...a very fast round at 2300 square feet...can penetrate 48 layers of Kevlar...

I assume it was a slip of the tongue, but that is what the police spokesman said in the video. Not hard to guess what types of images this hype creates in the mind of the unknowing...bullets as big as a house flying down range by the thousands...pretty scary.

On another note, as a diehard fan of Stargate, I'd really like to have one of those P90's. There is no way I could convince my wife the expenditure was needed to prepare for when the Wraith figure out how to get here from the Pegasus galaxy. ;-)

Just remind her that the Go'auld are still in THIS galaxy, and it's your patriotic duty to be ready...... :patriot:

Eh, a CZ-52 in 7.62x25 can achieve this on a good day. Supposedly penetrates level 3 vests.
