Synopsis - convenience store worker is threatened with a brick and then subsequently the brick is thrown at her knocking her out.

I'd consider being threatened with a brick as justification to use of deadly force.

:iagree:

Being hit in the head with a brick could certainly have fatal consequences.

Unfortunately, considering the accent of the voice-over (sounded British to me), she could be in bigger trouble, for possessing and using a handgun, than the brick-thrower would have been.

Thanks LJ.

And I agree, being threatened with a brick is serious enough to warrant extreme action on my part.

Wow, it's been a long while since I've even heard the term, baud! I miss the days went the Internet was simpler, more open and you could still "surf" with a text browser. Ok, may be I don't miss all that. But it was pretty cool when you could find friends at other schools simply by fingering the school's Unix or VMS box with your buddies name. And then came the realization that we couldn't just all get along and the need to lock everything down from the outside world.

Now with respect to the video. From what I see in the video, you may be justified if you shot the BG with the brick if you believed it was immediately necessary to protect the clerk from imminent harm. Would I have shot him? There's a good chance I'd have shot him to the ground and then started looking for other people involved in the assault and might need to be shot within the confines of the law.

I believe you'd have been justified popping the guy as soon as he made a direct threat with the brick (mock throwing it the first time) at least according to Texas law. Not sure about after he threw the brick cause he pretty much just walked out.

Mont: I'm not getting in any sort of hand-2-hand situation while I'm armed, even if it's concealed. Too much of a chance it's discovered and used on me. My personal opinion is if you're armed you really have only two options... shoot or don't shoot. Allowing a BG to get within range of you weapon is never a good idea.

I did not and would not suggest H2H at all in this situation and I'd never suggest going H2H when you have more effective options available. As I said, I'd probably shoot him based on what I can see in the video. Like you, I'd have assumed at the first flinch that he was attempting to throw the brick. I say probably only because from personal experience, I know a situation can change in the time it takes to apply pressure to the trigger.

You never bring a brick to a gunfight.

The guy in the striped shirt did not seem too surprised by the aggressor's actions...I wonder if he was in on it from the beginning. Perhaps he was supposed to be the 'look out' or bumper? During the assailant's first failed throw/gesture, the cashier simultaneously has a diversion causing her to trip him up. Angered, he then walks away. Meanwhile almost simultaneously, Mr. Stripes is walking over to the old guy who was just leaving with his bags and asks him something resulting in him looking/pointing out the door (misdirection). The aggressor then practically walks into Mr.Stripes on the second walk back to the counter, after the failed deployment of the brick. Captain Obvious says this was a robbery with poor logistic maneuvering. They took out their p_ ss-poor planning on the cashier.

Now, based on the possibility of having more than one aggressor/accomplice, I would have to really be in good cover to defend myself (if it were me in the cashier's shoes), or, I would try to be the best darned witness I could be.

Nah, it wasn't you OR the conversations on the topic of this thread.

Just for the record; coming at me with a brick will be dealt with the same as coming at me with a knife. ;)
