Scary situation...no more waiting around

Ok, first off let me say that I love my girlfriend, she is by far the best thing that has ever happened to me, and at this point we’re both agreed that once I finish up my masters degree in May we’ll be ready to take the big plunge as it were.
Here’s what scares me though. Last Monday night/ Tuesday morning I woke up at about 3 am shaking. I was freezing, which was weird because I was in pajama pants and under the covers. I’m shivering so much that I’ve woken her up and now she’s concerned. So in fear that I may have a bad fever she decides to go to the local 24 hour CVS to get a thermometer to see how bad it is.
As she walks into the store she said she didn’t notice anything unusual, but upon returning to the register, she sees two men behind the counter. At the same time an employee is shouting for her, as well as another employee standing close to her, to come to the office. It’s at this point that she realizes the two males behind the counter are hurriedly throwing boxes of cigarettes into trash bags.
Luckily she, along with the two employees, makes it to the office and lock the door while calling the police. Less than 30 seconds later the men are gone. Get this; both employees just act like nothing happened! Upon questioning them, they told my girlfriend that it happens all the time, and that they’re almost used to it.
So to get to the CHL part of the story, she’s been shooting with me for more than a year now and has gotten pretty familiar with most of my handguns. Recently she spoke with my mom and the two agreed that they’d like to take the CHL class together. So, at this point I’m thinking it’s more than worth my money to pay the class & state fee for both of them.
Now, even had I been there in this situation, I wouldn’t have pulled my gun on the men unless they threatened me (which I told her). However, being that they would have been between me and the door, I probably would have gone to the office as she did, but you better believe that I’d have my hand on the gun once I got out of their sight.
So, long story short, I got sick, and it put my girlfriend in harm’s way. I’m not going to put off on getting her into a class. And at the same time I think it’s time she and I went gun shopping for her. Don’t forget that you might not always be around/with your significant other, and if you love them, make sure they know how to use a gun or other weapon should the need arise.
