I think it would be interesting to see how many have actually have to draw there CHL weapon to defend Them self and/or others?

No, but when I was the training director at a local range another employee and I drew down on a security tard.

The closest I've come to drawing my ccw is puting my hand on the grip. Luckily the two LARGE stray dogs that were charging at me and my dog, turned and ran when I shouted NO!!, in my best bad dog voice.

As a private citizen, no; but my wife has twice and my youngest son once. Rather ironic, I'd say.

The one time I have held a man at gunpoint was long before Concealed Carry existed in this State.

He had broken into my truck and was in the process of stealing a rifle from my gun rack (mid '70's Austin, TX).

I have not, but this has to be an interesting story.

I have never drawn in Self Defense, but the a few years ago when I lived near Conroe, two intoxicated, illegal aliens flipped their truck in my neighbor's ditch. After checking on them, it was obvious they were not seriously injured, but that they were seriously drunk. I told my wife to call 911. They did not think the Police needed to be involved. I went inside and got my .40 USP. It was amazing how well the mere sight of a firearm improved their English language skills. Suddenly, "Don't come in my yard!" was perfectly clear. They attempted to walk down the road, but were picked up in a couple of minutes by the DPS.

I have not had to point my gun at anyone, Thank God. However, I have shown it twice, both times to salesmen, who were threatening. The first one put his foot in the door and I slammed it on his head, as he was coming in. The door bounced back, and I slammed it on his foot. Then, when I went to the car to get my gun, as I had been bringing groceries in when he rang the doorbell, and he saw me from across the street and came toward me, waving really big and smiling, like I was some long lost friend. Since I didn't want to get blood in my house, if he broke the door down, I just stood in the doorway, with the gun pointing to the side in front of my stomach and cocked it as he walked down the sidewalk, and told him to just keep walking, after he waved at me and said, "Happy Tuesday!" and was laughing like an idiot. He was scary! That was when I quit opening the door and decided that they could just identify themselves through the door, and I could watch them through the window. The second one would not leave the door and said that he would not. I asked him to go away six times, but he refused. When I asked him, "What is there about 'go away and leave my yard' that you don't understand?" and he said, "I won't leave until you buy [whatever it was he was selling, I forget];" then, I just put the gun up to the window for him to see a side view of it, and he said an expletive and left like his tail end was on fire! I didn't point the gun at any one, but made it clear that it was there, if they came after me. I think that it did its job. We're getting a lot of very aggressive salesmen in our area, and some of them are scary. The first one acted like he had a mental illness. He told my neighbor down the street that I was mean. After I told the neighbor why, he died laughing. I still don't think it was funny. At night a couple of nights before Thanksgiving, a couple knocked on the door, saying that they were selling some cleaning liquid and had a spray bottle of something and a rag in their hands. They were unkempt and dirty looking, with lots of tattoos that had no color to them. They didn't have a car or any other cleaning tools or supplies, so I kind of doubted that was what they were really all about. So, I told them to go away, but they were looking inside my house the whole time I was trying to get them to leave. It took me about 5 minutes to convince them to go. There was just something about them that didn't ring true.

One time I put my thumb under my sweater to clear the way to drawing my SP101 revolver if I needed to. But it turned out that I didn't need to so I didn't.

To this day I'm not sure if the other person involved got an inkling of what I was doing and why, and then quickly changed whatever plan he might have had, or if I just imagined that he did. (It was a snowy winter night and I had opened my coat and slipped my hand partly under my sweater to where I was touching the gun but with the gun still covered.) It seemed like his eyes got real big for a second or so, but I can't be positive. Him and his friend ended up staying in their car.

I often wonder if these situations we all prepare ourselves for are the "in the blink of an eye" types or if you can see them coming from a mile away. I feel like it's more the latter as situations often build in intensity, giving you enough time to raise your awareness and go to Orange; Yet, I have never been attacked, mugged, rushed or etc., so I guess the idea of someone getting to me before I could get the drop seems unlikely. (...not that I don't prepare for such events, though)

I saw this one coming.

I was mugged once, many years ago before I had a CHL. FWIW, the whole thing developed slowly enough that if I had been armed I could have easily backed up a step or two and drawn a gun. I don't think that particular BG would have had a clue as to what I was up to.

But I'm under no illusion that things couldn't happen a lot more quickly in a different circumstance.

These days, I am much more aware of what's going on around me, and who is "going on" around me. So in that sense, I think I'm a little farther ahead of the curve than before.

The short version: Stuck in late night traffic. Guy looks at my jeep, turns to his friends and says, "watch this".
Comes around and open passenger side door (soft top, no locks). I displayed my revolver and watched him run off (backwards). Traffic opened so I just left.
