Just curious if I can get a better price on .45 bullets.

Right now I'm paying $40.00 per 500rds / $80.00 per 1000 for 230gr. FMJ locally, so there is no shipping involved.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a better deal in the Houston area?

Or- if anybody here joins together in a group buy to get a better price and save on shipping costs?

I use Montana Gold in my .38 Super and in my .40 S&W

Recently I ordered a case of .45 230 gr FMJ
The cost per 1000 was about the same as your paying.

There is a good chance that you could get that price or a better one at the Space City Challenge in late April.
But
you will want to find one of the vendors and order ahead.

Another thought
Unless you are going to shoot them through a Glock
you might consider going to a lead bullet.

It's been a few years since I bought lead but I rember it being about half the price of FMJ's.
Of course I was buying 200 gr. SWC instead of 230 gr. round nose.
There is some cost savings in using a lighter bullet. But then you have to use a little more powder on a lighter bullet.

Where do you get your bulets? I also am going to be looking for a new place since I have found this forum. Thank you.

For those of you within driving distance of PSC in Friendswood this may be the best way to get bullets and other reloading supplies at a great price.

If you like lead bullets, there is (or used to be - the URL does not work for me this morning but could be my internet connection) an outfit in Halletsville called Lone Star Bullet Company http://www.lonestarbulletco.com - the guy's name is Randy and he is a real nice guy.

He used to sell 200 g lswc .45 bullets for about $36 per thousand, with a 10% discount if you buy 10,000 (no problem if you have a couple people to split with).

I have been real happy with his .45 semi-wadcutters and 158 g rnfp cowboy bullets.

http://www.tsgunsandammo.com/index.html in Texas City has some pretty good prices. I normally buy their Barry's Round Nose for target practice loads. I still think the price is close to what you are paying now.

My apologies, I realize I posted this in the wrong Reloading area. So I guess this thread needs to be moved, but I'm sure it has to be done by C.C., as I don't think I can do it.

Anyway, Thanks for the info guys, however, I need to stick with the FMJ since some of my .45 shooting is done through an HK USP, which has the polygonal rifleing.

The place I'm currently purchasing from is T's Ammo in Texas City. Good people to deal with - also very competitive prices - as far as I can tell - on primers.

Dave, If we can put together an order for 8 cases of bullets from Montana Gold we can get a pretty good price. They don't all have to be the same caliber but they do have to go to a single address.

Steve, we should see if we can get any interest in a TX CHL Forum group buy with Montana Gold and find out how many members are interested in purchasing some bulk bullets - we may get some pretty good prices...

I usually go with Widener's. They frequently have great deals. http://www.wideners.com/itemview.cfm?dir=278. The best price for FMJ there is usually on Winchester bullets. Every once in a while, they have some Israeli stuff that's a little less expensive.
