Last Wednesday my brother-in-law Rick was helping repair roof damage from wind on his Mom and Dads small country church in Southeast Missouri. The ladder he was using didn't get latched well and he fell about 12 feet shattering his L2 vertebrate and pelvis. They flew him into St. Louis and perfornmed surgery on Friday to put two small rods in place of the vertebrate. They will let the pelvis heal on its own since it was not out of place. They were very lucky as he had no spinal cord damage and never lost feeling in his legs or lower body. He was up and walking a little yesterday. I didn't post this last week as we were waiting on final diagnosis and outcome of surgery.
The big issue is he is a farmer and will be basically out of commision all summer. The one blessing is that his oldest son has just graduated with his Masters in Agriculture, is back home and has not taken abother job yet. Also, Rick's Dad had semi-retired from the farm, but can still help too. They will be able to take his spot on the farm this summer.
The hardest thing right now is they are 3 hours from home in the hospital and they have a 13 year old at home and another son 4 hours away in college. Older brother is there for the 13yo, as is Grandma and Grandpa, but Mom and Dad are away and it is hard for him. Please keep their family in your prayers for a quick return home and a speedy recovery.
Thanks!!!
