I stumbled (clicked) upon this site. It's a step-by-step guide for home-camo jobs on weapons. Jeff Foxworthy might call it, "better living through Krylon". Personally, I don't plan to use it, but there might be one of us who might want to try it.

That looks like it turned out pretty well. Although, I'd have to have someone professionally duracoat for me. I can't get past the burning inside when I think about getting near one of my own guns with a can of spray paint! Are you going to try it nuparadigm?

When we call coyotes, I just take strips of camo burlap and zip ties and get creative. Zip ties are cheap, and I can reuse the burlap. Next time I do it, I'll take pics and put them up. I also made my own electronic predator call, but that doesn't belong here. I'll document a predator calling trip with pics and post it in the hunting photo's section sometime.

I find camouflage to be mostly silly. Deer really don't care if your gun is black and brown, or shades of green and tan. Camouflaging things like flashlights, two-way radios, GPS units, knives, etc., is just downright stupid: when you drop those things in a pile of leaves in the twilight, you're going to wish they were hunter blaze orange.

Smart or stupid doesn't have anything to do with it. People camo-up their firearms for the same basic reason that we own firearms: because we can.

Beyond that, I believe that there are certain applications in which a "cammoed" firearm would be helpful. Calling varmints is one of them - especially crow calling.

Hah. I read this topic to mean camouflaging your gun *for* your home environment. As in, making it look like a lamp stand or some other innocuous item. Now it makes more sense.

I thought this thread was going to be about camouflaging your rifle or shotgun so that it blends in with the sofa and floor lamp in the background.

I thought the same thing.
Paint it the same color as the carpet, stencil a dog toy & tv remote on the side, maybe couple of socks and there you have it. "home camo"

Deer are basically colorblind. I always thought dogs were also but I don't really know. That's one reason a hunter can wear Day-Glo colors and still have a successful hunt.

Deer see movement and have a very keen sense of smell and hearing. Wearing plaid and using scentless soap will go a lot farther than ruining the finish on a fine firearm.

Birds on the other hand probably require camo but I would still probably not do anything so permanent. I might look into tying pieces of burlap around the shiny parts. I don't think I'd ever want to paint it.
