A Fort Worth salvage yard employee has been arrested on an accusation he injured two teens while trying to hit two suspects who he thought had stolen radiators from the business.

Elzie Lee Marshall, 48, of North Richland Hills, was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of injury to a child, Fort Worth police said. He was taken to Mansfield Law Enforcement Center and bond was set at $20,000.

On Monday, police responded to a report of a theft at the Aztec Salvage in the 2300 block of South Riverside Drive. Police said they obtained descriptions of the two men who stole radiators from the yard but were unable to locate them.

At about 2 p.m. later that day, a salvage yard employee saw the two suspects standing outside the yard near a fence. The men were talking with four juveniles when shots were fired.

A 13-year-old and 14-year-old were struck with birdshot. Both were transported to Cooks Children’s Hospital with non life-threatening injurires and expected to fully recover. It appears the juveniles were not involved in any criminal activity, police said.

The men suspected of stealing from the salvage yard have not been arrested, police said.

Why not? No wonder he felt like he had to try to shoot the crooks when he had the chance.

That's not an excuse for hitting innocent bystanders. Grade A stupidism.

Seems that "injury to a child" or "child endangerment" charges may be used as the mechanism to arrest someone while the investigation continues, attempting to determine whether they can make more "serious" charges stick.

IIRC, the original charge against the mother and step-father of "Baby Grace" might have been injury to a child.
