My primary method of concealed carry is a smart carry holster. Only problem is, that this isn't very practical in the vehicle. I'm toying with the idea of creating a solution for the car. I have three vehicles, and the truck / jeep are no problem, as they have a center console into which i can place a holstered weapon. The car is more of a problem. It has no console, so I was thinking of fabricating a small box of some sort that i can mount a holster inside, and then all i have to do is reach in and pull the weapon out. I could mount this in my car alongside the cockpit piece that has the stereo in it. Has anyone done anything like this before? Are there any products readily available? TIA.

I recall someone mounting a holster to the driver's side door and it working pretty well. I'll see if I can find that post.

My uncle has something very similar to that in his suburban. He attached an uncle mikes holster to a mounting plate (using small leather/clothing rivets), then mounted the bracket on the driver door. He now has a holster that locks onto a small bracket and it's easily removable when he needs to remove it for whatever reason. He also has several plates for the 1 bracket on different sized holsters.

A wilderness safepacker can be attached to your seatbelt. It works pretty well.

I don't think that'd count as being concealed though, but the safepacker has definite possibilities. I wonder if anyone local to D/FW carries them. I'm going to the fort worth gun show tomorrow. I'll look there as well.

From what I remember, it was concealed from view when driving. He had the holster clip to that plastic door pocket thing that's about the level of the seat. The positioning made it accessible, but concealed by by the driver's legs from the view of anyone else.

As for me, I carry in my normal OWB holster in my vehicle. I drive a van, and there's no console or other obstruction on my right side and it's a high-riding holster, so it's just as easy as drawing while standing. Most cars have a big hump with a console or something in the middle, so this method probably wouldn't work for those vehicles.

That's interesting, but I'd be way too nervous about concealment, plus I'm right-handed so that would be my weak-side.

This is what my father uses in his Accord. I've driven it quite a bit and it seems to work pretty good. I had a Ruger P345 in it with no problems. http://www.desantisholster.com/n92.html

It's actually nothing more than a nylon, pancake, ambidextrous, universal type holster like you would wear on your belt.

They simply added a short strap and buckle to attach it to the gap between the seat back/cushion.

As shown in the photo on the outside of the driver's seat, it would be out in the open.

Still, it might have possibilities for use on separated bucket seats where it could be attached to the inboard sides.

Toss a dark cloth over it and it might provide good access.

I'm still cogitating some other way that I can use it, like maybe on the steering column.

Thanks for the advice! That Desantis holster looks like a great idea, but I think i can fabricate something similar for much chearper! I appreciate everyone's input. I'll keep you updated, and please keep the ideas flowing!

I had a chep-o paddle much like NcongruNt posted. But mine fit PERFECT in the map pocket, so it was less exposed. I then put my short little umbrella in next to it, and laid it over,,, could not see the pistol at all, certainly could not with a quick in and out.

infact, had it there for 7+ years and the only person who ever saw it, was the guy who broke in and stole it, (+12 gage + ipod + stuff I never noticed missing)

If I did it again, I would get a left handed paddle like rig it up like NcongruNt, only bring it in EVERY night.
