I have a brother who is retired and is an official “snowbird�. He lives in Houston about 6 months and in Mn the other months of the year. He has a Mn driver’s license and a state issued Texas ID card. He has an apartment that he leases year round in Houston and he owns a home in Mn. He also has a Mn resident CHL and a Utah non-resident CHL so he is legal to carry in Texas.

The question is – can he legally buy a handgun or rifle in Texas. I guessing the answer is no but I am not sure. He does not want to attempt to buy one and be turned down so if there is any doubt he will wait until he is back in Mn. I am hoping that out of the many forum members at least one either is or knows someone that has been through this same situation and has the answer to this question.

Rifle? Almost certainly. Those aren't restricted to same state residence like handguns are.

Handgun? Probably. Sure sounds like he could prove Texas residency to me.

Yes. The Texas apartment and ID card are sufficient for ATF, especially if his time is basically split between the two states.
