Quite frankly if the politician doesn't want to trust me with a gun when he's talking to me then I don't want him in office, ever.

I went to see Bill Clinton* in Galveston Monday. There was no security except (apparently) three Secret Service men who stood behind him most of the time, some state police, and a lot of local police officers. Anyone in the crowd could have been carrying a concealed weapon.

I doubt the Secret Service would shoot someone who was printing. They would probably hustle the VIP into an armored vehicle and have the cops deal with the suspect.

*I know, I know; but I had never seen a current or former President live.

They should have just put up a gun buster sign and a no firearms allowed sign and they would have been fine. We all know that gun free zones work.

My Thoughts,

1. I disagree with tax payers dollars paying for secret service protection for someone running for office. Let their campaigns pay for private security if they are worried. We should not pay for their security while our university students are always unprotected. I have not heard of any mass killings at political rallys lately, have you?

2. If there are metal screenings at the entry's and I cannot pass with a CHL I will go home, and concentrate on another candidate. If they don't want the gun, then they don't want me, and I don't want them.

3. Is reunion arena property of The City of Dallas. Is it always posted? Did the democrats pay a use fee? Is this SOP for all rally's?

4. It would however surprise me if this group gave a second thought to alienating CHLer's in Texas. Based on what we know of Barack, and his supporters 2A views, and what they know of our views, they probably were not expecting our participation.

I wouldn't go see that guy give a speech anyway if you paid me....

Reunion is owned by the City of Dallas. Dallas PD officers were conducting the screening. They could not legally bar armed CHLs, no matter who the rally was for. Unfortunately, there's no penalty if they do so anyway.

This being an Obama crowd, I doubt there were any CHLs attending.

I do not think we need to scope that out anymore. His ideas are pretty clear to me.

Public event. Guns aren't allowed, 30.06 or otherwise, because it falls under 46.03 or 46.035 (not sure which it is, but it's one of the two).

The Secret Service would not have shot unless a weapon was drawn and brandished. You may get a rather large black-suited guy pinning you bodily to the floor of Reunion Arena if someone notices a concealed weapon, but the Secret Service have a force continuum just like any other civilian security force.

Unfortunatley not anymore. Once I graduated my company moved me to South Louisiana. I'm from Conroe and a 3rd generation Bearkat. Grandad went and taught there before WWII, mom went there, uncle went there, multiple cousins went there and all graduated!

46.035(c) prohibits CHL holders from carry weapons at meetings of governmental entities (city council, for example), and it applies only if a 30.06 sign is posted.

There is no statutory way that CHL holders can be kept out of an event of this type in a city-owned property. It's just one of those facts of life that it can happen anyway.

I saw a video where 1 candidate actually went into a gun shop and talked to folks there, he even handled a firearm.
