Firearms License

Yesterday evening, Papalote and I were at the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada mall which is one of the larget in North America. When we entered we both habitually felt the empty spot at our 3:30 position where his Glock and my Kimber would normally reside. We agreed that being nekkid is not comforting.
We were not headed look at clothes, man purses, droopy jeans, or the like. There is a wave pool so we did ogle at some winter swim wear.
Our destination was the indoor gun range and gun store. We found it and entered. Nice selection of handguns that meet Canadian barrel length laws and a real nice selection of rifles.
I was looking the rifles over and noticed a really nice Weatherby in 300 Win Mag. The conversation went like this:
Me - "May I see that Weatherby please?"
Her - "This one?"
Me - "No - that one."
Her - "Do you have your firearms license?"
Me - "I have to have a license to handle an unloaded firearm?"
Her - "Yes"
Me - "I guess a Texas CHL is not good enough?"
Her - "No!"
I can drive a car up here, work in refineries and processing plants with pipelines full of extremely flammable material at enormous pressures, and extremely hazardous chemicals but I can't fondlle a firearm.
Sheesh!

As they say, God Save the Queen.
As I say, glad I don't live up there

Makes you wonder how they stay in business.
Seems like the govies would encourage more gun stores just to get the additional revenue from sale of licenses. Sounds more like a shopping tax than a gun license.
God bless America!

That is the reason they say "God save the Queen." They have not been able to defend her since 13 colonies of Patriots spanked her Redecoats & sent them home.
Since then we have had to save her from Germany twice.

Welcome to Canada!
Makes you glad to be from the states. ehhh!
Next time anyone wants a good reason to join the NRA/TSRA, just revisit this post.

It's similar in various of our own glorious states. In IL you are supposed to have a FOID to handle a firearm, even in a gun store or at a range (FOIDs have had no age limit until now, so in order to teach my stepson to shoot, he had to get a FOID at 10.) In NY you cannot handle a handgun without a NY pistol permit.

This makes about as much sense as 18-year-olds being able to carry an M-4 in the military, but not being allowed to apply for a CHL until they're 21.

This makes about as much sense as getting a ticket if your car doesn't have a muffler but having to pay a $200 tax to put a muffler on a firearm.

Venus,
Service Members can get their CHL at 18 and as of last September, the legislature waived the fees for all military applicants.

My neighbor works for Bectel and was transferd to Edmonton 8 months ago and will be there for
a couple of years working at the Shell refinery.
You should have seen all the forms he had to fill out just to take 1 rifle and his Bow up there .
