Does anyone know if the boxes that a kimber comes in is approved to carry a handgun on a flight inside your luggage??? I have two steel pins with locks on them to secure it with .I would like to know first hand if anyone has use one?

TSA says it has to be a hard side case that locks does this cover that ?

I have to flight to VA. 10th of March for a school.

It should be fine. I have flown with a revolver in a $3 gun case with a $4 padlock.

For personal piece of mind though:
Double check to make sure that you cannot tap the hinge pins out from the outside. Most people do not look at this, but I have made sure that ANY case I travel with is secured on all 6 sides by having internal hinges. Just something to think about.

I think this is about the best protection from them removing the hinge pins out of it as they would have to break off the feet to get them out.

I have seen some very flimsy "hard" cases packed in people's suitcases, some that I would consider very questionable, but TSA says nothing more than a lockable hard case.

Bolt cutters will unlock most padlocks in a few seconds.

I will bury the case in my suitcase under lot of cloth's so I hoping that this works to keep it safe. this will be in a secure area and I know TSA will not like to tell how a gun got loose in that area.

So I am hoping this will be the only time I have to fly.

If the case is plastic, the locks are irrelevant. Any saw-toothed blade can go right around the lock in seconds.

Dremel with a cutter blade = open in seconds

Cordless dremel = even worse!

Get insurance on your luggage

one thing to keep in mind, Doc, is that, depending on the ticket agent, you'll have to show that the firearm is unloaded. This means you may have to up your suitcase, open the gun case, and show the ticket agent that the firearm is unloaded, visually.

I have had to do this both times that I flew. Once with Southwest, and once with (un)American.
