Hi folks.

I sure would appreciate the advice of those here who are much smarter than me.....

I am looking for a OWB leather or nylon belt holster for a 4 inch 1911 (Kimber Tactical Pro II) that has a thumbreak to accommodate the cocked and locked manner of carry.

I normally do not use thumbreak holsters but I want to go that direction for a holster to wear while riding my Harley. That little extra measure of security with the thumbreak retention would provide peace of mind while riding.

I have looked at the Galco and DeSantis web sites, DeSantis has a holster that matches the description of what I am looking for, but I can only find it for a 5 inch 1911.

Any and all advice is certainly appreciated !

BTW.... is anyone has a good used holster like I am looking for, just shoot me a PM and I'll get back to you as soon as I read it.

I saw a thread somewhere a guy had i believe it was a Galco thumb break holster for his 1911 but he had to butcher the strap due to when he snapped it the position of the strap would disengage the thumb safety on his gun.

Galco has 2. F.L.E.T. C.H. and the Silouet.
Also go to the "Day to Day" forum. Under Holsters & gear there is a sticky of a LOT of holster makers. Many of them offer the thumbreak as a option to some of their holsters.

And Garrity's Gunleather makes several models that have thumb break straps as an option. For riding, they have a basic pancake model that looks like it might be particularly comfortable. http://garritysgunleather.com/BeltHolsters.htm

For what you pay for a Galco, they should make it for whatever barrel length you desire. That said, a commander fits just fine in a full-size 1911 holster. There's extra leather (or synthetic) but that don't bother the pistol none.

I have a 4" Kimber Pro CDP II and this one works great for me.

Bianchi has other similar designs. This one (in size 10) may not be designed for a four inch, but since the bottom is open the barrel length can be different and it fits the same.

This isn't a thumb snap but it also works well.

Let me also caution against the use of a thumb break on a 1911 holster.

Years ago, when I first ordered a holster for a 1911, I had it made with the thumb break. It would routinely disengage the thumb safety. I first had the maker trim the thumb break, but it would still move the safety.

As I got more comfortable carrying cocked and locked, I had the thumb break completely removed.

I understand your desire for security while on your bike, but any strap will interfere either with the thumb safety or the grip safety.

I go IWB w/ a full size steel 1991A1 in a CrossBreed Super-Tuck Deluxe at the 3 to 4ish position, I ride my "Hardly" ('07 Yamaha V-Star 650), no problems at all..no worries about retention or anything, it wears and conceals very well.
