Boston, and much of the Northeast in general, is completely insane. The people have been reduced to a near childlike state. It's really pathetic.
The current inhabitants would have certainly thrown in with what were called the "Tories" in revolutionary times. General Gage would have been on very good terms with them, and they with him. The "shot heard 'round the world" would have never been fired, at least not by them or anyone like them.
Different kind of folks from what we have here in Texas.
My own theory is inspired by some old (early 19th century) newspaper ads I once saw. They offerred land grants of a full section, 640 acres, to people who would come out here and live on and work the land. After so many years, they would own it outright. The object was to get people to settle here and populate Texas. These ads ran in newspapers "back East".
So picture people reading those ads back then. They would know that stuff like food, water, and all the elements of basic survival, including protecting onesself against wild animals, criminals, and sometimes hostile natives, were going to be entirely their responsibility. (And remember, there was no air conditioning back in those days!

)
To me, it seemed like those ads acted like a "human filter" of sorts. Hardy self-reliant confident people were willing to throw the dice and take up the challenge. People who were more risk-averse tended to stay behind.
Whether it's genetic, cultural, or some mixture of both, it was evident to me when I moved here in 2001 that people here were different.
And that's in a good way.
