i will buying a firearm from an individual Saturday and would like to know if there is any thing i should know or need to take with me(besides the funds)? i realize that it is legal for people to buy guns from one another in Texas, so there should not be any paper work or forms, right? basically, what would/do you do for FTF sales?(no rey, he is not serving me snacks :( )

thank you, Michael

btw, its for this baby, any comments would be nice on the gun as well (i.e, to much for package, i know seller and he is no good to deal with...stuff like that)

No paperwork is required in either direction.

If I don't know the seller, I will ask for a receipt. That's just me. It's not legally required and not very useful.

I've always considered the receipt to be of more value to the seller.

If there is ever a need to trace the particular firearm through its distribution, a receipt can be handy to show the authorities that you no longer own the firearm in question.

If this is new to you, the Feds can only trace a firearm by starting at the factory and seeing what distributor it was sold to, then which dealer it was sold to, then visit the dealer to inspect the 4473 to get the original owner's information.

Beyond that, each owner would need to convince them that the firearm was sold to someone else. The quickest way to do that is with a receipt.

If they are willing to give it to you I like a receipt with a copy of the buyers DL just to file it away in case there is ever a question.

Fiddling.

The parking lot of a shooting range, at least the ones that I'm familiar with, is fine. I have had security in some parking lots pounce like a rabid pit bull on something that they thought was shady. You have to know the place.

I've done a few deals in parking lots, usually when we needed to meet halfway.

I haven't been hassled yet, but it's probably best kept for a last resort.

Shooting range or gun store is where I would go with some people around just in case the person you are dealing with is not on the up and up.
